Great to get behind St Joseph's School in Temuka for their Colour Run fundraiser! 🧡

The Geeves team had a bit of fun running one of the colour stations, making sure everyone left with plenty of orange on them! 🟠

Temuka is home to many of our staff and their families, so it's always nice to be able to give something back to a community that's part of our team.

These are the sorts of local events we're proud to be involved in, and it was great seeing so many families out enjoying the day.

Well done to everyone involved in organising such a great event! 👏

Great training session with the Geeves Timaru team today, focusing on one of the biggest risks in our industry — working at height.

We ran three practical training stations led by our Supervisors and overseen by our Group H&S & Training Manager, Vadim.

1️⃣ Harnesses, lanyards & fall prevention
The team worked through harness and lanyard inspections, looking for damaged or worn webbing, stitching and hardware. We then explored safety-line and static-line options, with the focus always being on preventing the fall in the first place.

2️⃣ Safe scaffold build methods
Crews practised the step-up method, allowing scaffolders to work from behind installed handrails without exposing themselves to a fall and without relying solely on a harness.
We also practised the tunnelling method, installing handrails ahead before stepping into the next bay to minimise exposure.

3️⃣ Rescue from height
The team worked through several realistic rescue scenarios and the different methods available depending on the scaffold.
For more straightforward builds, this included the pull-in rescue method and using the basic rope rescue kits carried in our trucks to release a casualty from their lanyard and lower them safely.
We then moved into more technical scenarios, including a fall from a cantilever using a Type 3 rescue hub to either lower the casualty to the ground or winch them back to the lift above, as well as rescuing someone suspended from a lattice beam above a void, where lowering directly to ground isn't possible.

It wouldnt be a good training day without a bbq thrown in. 🌭

A valuable day of practical training — not just talking about working safely at height, but giving our people the opportunity to practise the methods and rescues they may one day need to rely on.

Train for it. Practise it. Be ready for it. 🧡

Exciting news! The Community Trust of Mid & South Canterbury have just donated $80,000 towards the exhibition fitout for Te Kura Marumaru South Canterbury Museum! This generous grant now brings our total to $1.5 million of a $2m target - we're 75% of the way there😃😃😃😃😃😃😃.

And don't forget, you can easily support this project by visiting www.scmdt.org.nz where you can read more about what is planned and make an online donation directly from your bank account. Every little bit helps, and you'll receive a charitable donation receipt which may be used for tax purposes.

Here's Museum Director Philip Howe with Ahu Community Trust chair Di Hay and SC Museum Development Trust chair John Simpson this morning outside the new museum site.
