🏑 The Grass Guys' Home Lawn Journey | Day 42: First Mow! πŸŒ±βœ‚οΈ

And just like that… it's time for the first mow! πŸ™Œ

42 days after hydroseeding, this lawn has gone from bare, prepared soil to a seriously lush, bright green lawn and we're pretty happy with how it's looking.

But remember our earlier lawn-care lesson? Don't get too trigger-happy with the mower! πŸ˜‚

For that first mow, we haven't taken the grass right down. The goal is to remove no more than around one-third of the grass blade, leaving enough leaf to help the young lawn continue growing strong and healthy.

So yes, it looks a little longer than your average freshly mowed lawn and that's exactly what we want at this stage.

🌱 Let it establish.
βœ‚οΈ Mow it sensibly.
πŸ’§ Keep it healthy.
πŸ’š Enjoy the green!

Another milestone ticked off in our Homegrown Lawn Journey.

This steep batter in Bethlehem recently faced another heavy rain event, and that's exactly when effective hydroseeding and erosion control prove their worth.

Without established vegetation, rain can quickly wash away exposed soil, causing erosion, instability, and costly repairs. Instead, this slope with Bio Coir matting we hydroseeded has held together, with the established grass helping to protect the surface and keep the soil where it belongs.

Our work doesn't stop once the equipment is packed away. One of our team returned to inspect the site, check the condition of the batter after the heavy rain, and make sure everything was performing as expected. It's all part of our commitment to quality workmanship, customer service, and making sure every project continues to deliver long after we've left site.

Because great results aren't just about what happens on day one, they're about how the project performs when nature puts it to the test.

Steep slope? That's where The Grass Guys come into their own. 🌱πŸ’ͺ

This Maungatapu project called for hydromulching to help protect the exposed slope, manage erosion and give vegetation the best possible start.

Hydromulching provides a protective layer over the soil while new growth establishes, making it a smart solution for challenging civil and commercial sites.

Big slopes. Tough conditions. Specialist solutions.

That's what we do.

🏑 The Grass Guys' Home Lawn Journey | Part 6: Trust the Process 🌱

Just four days can make all the difference!

Only a few days ago, this lawn was showing the first signs of growth. Fast forward to Day 18, and it's already transformed into a vibrant green carpet.

One of the biggest questions we're asked is, "Why does my lawn look patchy at first?" The answer is simple - new grass establishes at different rates, and with a little patience, it naturally fills in.

Because we hydroseeded this lawn during winter, the grass has taken a little longer to establish than it would in spring or summer. The upside? Winter rainfall has helped keep the lawn consistently moist, reducing the need for frequent watering.

Whether it's winter or summer, the recipe for success is the same:
πŸ’§ Consistent moisture.
⏳ A little patience.
🌱 Great results.

The transformation is really starting to take shape now - and we're only just getting started!

πŸ‘‰ Follow along as we continue tracking this lawn all the way to its first mow.

A new season deserves a new look. 🌱🌼

Spring has officially arrived and if your garden, lifestyle block or property is looking for a little refresh, why not add some colour and bring a little more life to the land?

Wildflower meadows are a beautiful way to introduce vibrant seasonal colour while creating a welcoming environment for bees, butterflies and other pollinators. πŸπŸ¦‹πŸŒΈ

And once established, they can be surprisingly low-maintenance.... meaning more enjoying the view and less worrying about keeping it perfect.

So, if you're thinking about making a change this spring, perhaps it's time to go a little wild. 🌼

The Grass Guys can hydroseed wildflower meadows for residential, lifestyle and larger commerical properties.

Not every site is easy - and that’s exactly the point. 🌱

This steep slip at Tauranga shows the kind of terrain The Grass Guys are brought in to assess and stabilise.

Exposed sand, extreme slope angles, and high erosion risk mean these sites need the right approach from the start. Hydromulching is designed to help protect the surface, reduce erosion, and prepare the ground for successful vegetation establishment.

When the slope gets serious, so do we.

🏑 The Grass Guys' Home Lawn Journey | Part 5: Day 14 🌱

Two weeks in... and the lawn is really starting to wake up!

The grass shoots are coming through strongly across the property, and while you might notice some areas growing faster than others, that's completely normal at this stage.

Every lawn establishes at its own pace as the seed responds to moisture, soil temperature, and sunlight. The key now is consistent watering to give the young grass the best possible start.

The temptation is to judge the lawn too earlyβ€”but trust the process. The hard work is happening beneath the surface as the roots establish and the lawn begins to fill in.

It's exciting to see this transformation taking shape, and we can't wait to show you what's next!

🏑 The Grass Guys' Home Lawn Journey | Part 4: The Inspector Has Arrived... 🐦🌱

It's been 8 days since hydroseeding, and we've had our very first site inspection... courtesy of one very curious blackbird! 🧐

More importantly, our Soprano grass seed has officially started germinatingβ€”a great sign that everything is progressing just as it should.

Winter hydroseeding takes a little patience, but this is where the excitement starts. Those tiny green shoots are the beginning of a healthy, lush lawn.

Every stage of the journey matters, and it's great to see all the preparation paying off.

πŸ’¬ Have a question about hydroseeding or lawn establishment? Drop us a comment or send us a DM - we're always happy to help.

πŸ‘‰ Stay tuned... next week we'll have even more growth to share!

When every square metre matters. 🌱

Hydromulching isn't just about spraying seed - it's about applying it with precision to achieve consistent coverage across challenging terrain.

This project on Maungarangi Road shows one of our team carefully applying hydromulch across a steep slope, ensuring even coverage over exposed soil to help protect against erosion while vegetation establishes.

Steep slopes demand experience, the right equipment, and a crew that knows how to work safely and efficiently. That's exactly what The Grass Guys bring to every project.
