The olive harvest is one of our favourite times of year. 🌿

For a couple of days every year, family, neighbours and friends all come together armed with sticks and plenty of enthusiasm, to persuade the olives from the trees with a bit of traditional tree-whacking.

This year’s Frantoio olives have given us a truly beautiful crop, pressed into organic, extra virgin olive oil while the fruit is still fresh the same day. Cold pressed to preserve its vibrant flavour, peppery finish, and all the goodness that comes with it.

It’s more than a harvest, it’s a Garden House tradition. A reminder that the best things are made together.

If you’ve visited Garden House, chances are you’ve been handed a beautiful flat white by Emily. She’s the devoted daughter, and loving mum that brings Garden House to life. She’ll likely be balancing a tray of coffees in one hand and wrangling a whippet dog in the other.

She moves through this place with the same warmth and care that she brings into every part of her life. Whether you are planning a private birthday function in the garden or organising a large cycle group for lunch, you just know you’ll be well taken care of. (Being a wedding planner certainly helps!)

There’s also plenty that goes on behind the scenes too, like perfecting the coffee grind each morning, assembling beautiful high tea boxes, decorating shortbread cookies with rose petals, potting up plants to sell in the shop or gathering fruit straight from the trees.

But above all else, she’s an incredible mum. Watching her balance motherhood alongside the rhythm of Garden House has been such a beautiful thing to witness. She brings so much gentleness, strength and joy into both.

Garden House is only Garden House because of her.

Some people can make a space feel loved without ever trying too hard. Karen is one of those people.

Long before the first coffee is poured each morning, she’s already been through the gardens collecting flowers, watering pots or thinking about what needs baking for the cabinet that day. By the time guests arrive, there are fresh muffins cooling on trays, flowers on the tables and cream whipped and ready for scones.

There isn’t really one role she fills here. She’s the florist, baker, barista, stylist, gardener, admin, and creative eye behind so much of Garden House. She also makes all of our berry jams and spicy tomato kasundi from produce grown right here on the farm. Somehow, she moves between all of it seamlessly.

She’s the light and soul here, our charismatic cheerleader and social butterfly. Chances are if you hear a laugh in the next room it’s probably her and a few favourite regulars. 😉

When she’s not busy out front or behind the scenes, her happy place is knee deep in the garden cutting armfuls of dahlias and cosmos. Sometimes you’ll even find her with a paintbrush in hand putting her gorgeous blooms on a canvas. (Be sure to encourage her to paint more!)

Garden House wouldn’t feel like Garden House without Mum.

She’s the softness, creativity and care woven through every part of this place, and we honestly don’t know how she does it all.

Paul is the quiet (or often loud) engine behind everything at Garden House, the kind of farmer whose fingerprints are on every corner of the land.

Each year, he grows 2,000 pumpkins, sold in the shop or used to make pumpkin soup or toasted sandwiches in the cafe. But pumpkins are just the beginning. Paul grows almost everything you see, and plenty you don’t. He moves between rows, soil, ovens, and workbenches with the same steady rhythm. One moment he’s propagating seedlings with the care of a watchmaker, the next he’s pulling trays of warm scones from the oven.

He built much of this place with his own hands, and when something doesn’t exist yet, he makes it. Chopping boards, tables, berry sheds, car parks, our new covered sitting area, you name it.

But no matter how full the day is, Paul always finds time to stop. If you come for coffee, chances are he’ll wander over, hands still dusty from the garden, to ask how you are, where you’ve come from or what you’ve been up to. Not out of obligation, but genuine curiosity. The kind that makes you feel, even briefly, like you belong here too.

He is, in every sense, the father of the operation. Not just in title, but in the constant role of holding it all together.

On the rare day he steps away, you might find him out on the water, chasing a different kind of stillness. Though truthfully, those days are few.

Because Paul doesn’t just run the farm. He is the farm. We love you Poppa Paul x
