Looking back on this cedar restoration journey!

We love building long-term relationships with the homes we work on! The previous owners initially passed our details along to the new homeowner, and we’ve been keeping this beautiful cedar cladding in top shape ever since.

From a full house wash and bio-grade chemical rinse to targeting the weather-exposed sides, we've taken care of:
🔹 Removing built-up mould, dirt, and debris using surface cleaning and low-pressure soft washing.
🔹 Protecting all windows, concrete, and fixtures during the prep stage.

Back on site at the same property to complete phase two: a full pine fence restoration, right down to the roadside boundary!
Here is how we took this fencing from weathered to modern:
1. Deep Wash: Applied a bio-grade chemical wash combined with a low-pressure clean to safely eliminate mould and buildup.
2. Surface Protection: Carefully masked off all surrounding concrete, glass, downpipes, and lights to ensure clean lines and zero overspray.
3. Stain Application: Applied two heavy coats of Resene Waterborne Woodsman Pitch Black CoolColour penetrating oil stain for a sleek, durable finish.
We wrapped up with a full site tidy and window wipe-down, leaving the property spotless and tying the whole exterior look together seamlessly.

The 2026 Refresh Process:

Taking this cedar back to square one for a complete reset!

Here’s how we transformed two walls of cedar cladding previously coated in Intergrain into a fresh, long-lasting finish:

Step 1: Prep & Strip: We started by masking every window, concrete structure, light, and downpipe to shield the house from drips. Next, we applied a chemical strip and wash to completely dissolve the old Intergrain coating, following up with targeted sanding to catch any lingering stain or paint.

Step 2: Dual-Coat Protection: Once the surface was completely bare and clean, we masked again where necessary and applied two coats of Cutek CD-50 pe*******on oil in Coastal Dune.

Step 3: The Wrap Up: Masking removed, joinery and glass wiped clear of any residual oil, and the site left tidy and spotless!

From raw prep to the final, rich finish!

Stage 1 — Clean & First Coat (March): We used a bio-grade chemical wash and low-pressure rinse to safely strip mould, dirt, and debris from the cedar cladding, fascia boards, and front door. Once masked and protected, we applied coat #1 of Cutek CD-50 Coastal Dune pe*******on oil.

Stage 2 — Second Coat (April): Returning in April, we masked the property again and applied the crucial second coat to the cladding around the stairs, roof barge boards, and decking area to build deep, long-lasting weather protection.

Proper prep + high-quality pe*******on oil = exterior timber built to last!

Starting the restoration process right!

Here’s a look at stage one of this project: clearing away months of built-up dirt, debris, and mould using a bio-grade chemical surface cleaner and a low-pressure soft wash. We paid extra attention to all the cedar cladding, barge/fascia boards, and the front door to get the wood back to a pristine state.

After carefully masking off surrounding windows, concrete, lights, and downpipes to prevent any drips, we applied the first protective coat of Cutek CD-50 pe*******on oil in Coastal Dune. Site packed up, residual oil cleaned off the joinery, and ready for the next phase!
