🥇🥳 WINNER 🥳🥇

I usually try to be a pretty humble person.. but I feel like this warrants a bit of boasting 🤗

Today it was announced that Kanpai - The Japanese Wh***ey Cabinet just took home FIRST PLACE in the furniture category for New Zealand’s biggest woodworking competition, The Art of Wood NZ 2026!!

Hosted by The National Association of Woodworkers NZ Inc (NAW)

Judged by a group of very highly acclaimed international woodworkers from around the world.

I’m completely honoured and blown away, especially considering the amount of this years very talented entries.

Congratulations to all of the other winners and entrants on your beautiful pieces!

A huge thank you to all that have supported me through this journey so far 🙏 without you, Pukerua Furniture would not be what it is today!

And a very very special thank you to Mhairi Palmer & Alastair Palmer - without you Kanpai would still just be a twinkle in my eye waiting for the opportunity to come to fruition!

The official local (Kapiti region) exhibition and award ceremony will be held at the Baptist Church Hall in Te Moana Road, Waikanae @ 2pm on Sunday the 18th of October.

If you are local and able to attend I would love to see you there 🙂

All glue-ups successfully complete and square 📐 Accompanied by the usual (completely healthy) amount of stress.. 🤤

I’ve unofficially dubbed this section of the build, The Rib Cage 🩻

More updates coming soon!
