Education. Wow I learnt such an important tip this week. What we thought was a tidy detail is actually causing leaking over time which remains hidden. Claus our installer does 600 plus showers a year so I listen to the voice of experience. When you stop learning in our trade it’s time to hang up your belt. Some great advice. Difficulties with engineered flooring on older homes. Preparation is key to ensuring a result that will be superb and will meet the specifications of the product. Tolerances of 3mm over 3 metres. This floor previously particle board laid in the 90s with no glue and no floor preparation of the joists back then. House settlement had created a large hump and the benefits of lifting out the floor were many. We found kitchen waste with no fall was blocked. Created a fall and changed waste. The floor squeaking was every where. Previous attempts had been made to screw off the floor were unsuccessful. The floor was not solidly nogged in mid spans. Nogs were loose and poorly fitted. Now all corrected. No mid floor insulation which will be added to reduce the noise between levels. So often peeling the structure back has so many benefits to be gained when it’s your own home. Our clients always appreciate the best options in the long run. Cost is just a part of the investment to create better areas and enhance your home. So like many we work on that wee kitchen renovation evolves.
