💙 Apprentice Appreciation Post 💙

This week we're shining the spotlight on three of our awesome apprentices: Casey (2nd year), James (3rd year), and Michael (1st year).

At AMC, we're proud of the team culture we've built over the years, and our apprentices are a huge part of its future. These three are a great example of what a successful apprenticeship looks like. They're hardworking, fun, eager to learn, and always looking for ways to improve. They're also staying on top of their training and, in many cases, exceeding expectations with their bookwork.

Thanks, Casey, James, and Michael, for the energy, commitment, and positive attitude you bring to AMC every day. We love being part of your journey and having you in the team.

💙 On a personal note…

Our directors share their career journeys with us, showing that there isn't just one pathway into our industry.

Darren had a lot of family involved in the trades and wanted a job that would provide opportunities for the future. He began as an apprentice electrician, working his way through the industry in New Zealand and overseas, progressing from electrician to foreman, project manager, and eventually business owner.

Andrew completed degrees in both Engineering and Commerce. While applying for jobs, he interviewed with a Construction Manager at a main contractor, which sparked his interest in the construction industry. He started his career there before moving into subcontracting with AMC, after Darren's persistent offers of a job proved too good to resist!

When asked what lesson had stayed with them throughout their careers, Darren said: "Skills and knowledge are important, but treating people well, keeping your word, and building trust will take you further than anything else."

Andrew's approach is to: "Begin with the end in mind."

Their journeys into the industry looked quite different, but it's those different experiences and perspectives that help create the leadership team we have today at AMC. We're lucky to have them both. 💙

Coffee & Sun ☕🌞

A sunny day on site and a surprise coffee run is a pretty good way to break up the morning. Andrew caught up with Casey & James for smoko at the Kauri Bus depo to plan the week ahead. It's the little things that keep the team fuelled and ready for whatever the day throws at them.

We are finalists!

We're incredibly proud to announce that AMC Electrical has been named a finalist in the Master Electricians Excellence Awards 2026 for our work on the iconic Te Whare Whakarauika Wellington Town Hall.

To be recognised in the Project $5M+ category alongside some of the country's best electrical contractors is a real honour.

This recognition belongs to every member of the AMC team who contributed along the way. Thank you for the passion, commitment, and skill you bring to your work every day.

Whatever happens on awards night, we're already proud of what we've achieved together.

A big thank you to Mia and Jamie from Schneider Electric for joining us at our recent staff meeting.

They certainly knew how to get everyone's attention, arriving with an amazing spread before taking us through some of their most popular products, along with a few that were new to many of us. The relaxed Q&A session was a great way for the team to ask questions, swap ideas, and learn more about the solutions available to our customers.

If it's one thing Wellington knows, it's wind and rain.

While most people were staying dry, our team was out battling the elements to make sure power was ready to go for the Sunday markets. Can’t beat Wellington on a good day 🙄. Thanks to the guys out there doing it 👊

It's always great to see the "team" in action.

One of the best parts of an apprenticeship is the variety. Different sites, different challenges, different co-workers.

We're enjoying following Michael's progress throughout his apprenticeship, both on site and through his commitment to his bookwork. It's great to see him continuing to build his skills and experience as he works towards becoming a qualified electrician.

Today marks Sam's last day with AMC as he trades Wellington's weather for something a little warmer across the ditch.

It's been an absolute pleasure having you as part of the team, Sam. We'll miss your positive attitude and having you around each day, but we're excited for you as you start this next chapter.
