A study in contrast.
Soft texture. Dark stone. Warm brass. Clean lines.

A bathroom with just enough tension to make it interesting.

There’s a point in a build where the drawings start to read at full scale.

At Ranfurly, the roof framing is taking shape, defining the proportions of the home and bringing its silhouette into focus.
Structure becoming architecture.

A look at September on site at Ranfurly.

The house doesn’t stop at the walls.

Levels, paths, planting and stone all shape the way a home sits within its site. That is why the landscape is considered from the beginning.

Even the rockwork is placed with intent, each piece an expression of the hands that placed it. Part structure, part artistry, it helps ground the house in its surroundings.

Sometimes the variation is in the surface, not the palette.

The same stone tile runs through this bathroom in two finishes, smooth across the walls and ribbed through the shower.

Keeping the colour consistent allows the texture to do the work. As the light moves across each surface, the room gains depth without needing another material or colour added to it.

A quieter palette leaves more room to notice the details.

Engawa | The space between inside and out.

In traditional Japanese architecture, the engawa sits at the edge of the house, creating a gradual transition between home and landscape.

It is an idea we come back to in contemporary outdoor living. Not a separate space added onto the house, but one that extends the way the house is lived in.

Doors stay open longer, meals move outside, and the boundary between indoors and out becomes less defined.

Lighting changes the way architecture is read.

It can flatten a room or give it depth. Pull texture from timber, bring attention to a surface, or make a large space feel more intimate after dark.

That is why we think about lighting as part of the architecture, not something to resolve once the build is nearly finished.

The fitting is only one part of the decision. What matters is what the light does to the room.

Powder Room | The one room in a house that can afford to be bold.

Botanical wallpaper wraps three walls, while hand-finished tile gives the fourth its own texture. A pedestal basin keeps the floor visible beneath it, helping the room feel more generous than its footprint suggests.

Small in scale, but not in character. The perfect place to do something a little unexpected.

This house follows the land, rather than fighting it.

The site falls away, so the foundation changes with it. Part concrete slab, part piled floor, allowing the house to step across the site and sit at the level that best captures the outlook.

It is a structural decision, but also an architectural one. How a house meets the ground has a direct impact on how it meets the view.

The foundation is already doing more than holding the house up.

Massey Street | The Final Layers

At this stage of a build, progress gets quieter.

The structure is established. Now it is cabinetry, flooring, decking, heating and all the smaller decisions that begin to define how the house will actually feel.

Individually, they can seem like finishing touches. Together, they are what turn a build into a home.

Massey Street is getting close.

Kanuka Street | Designed for Generations

A multigenerational home needs to make space for togetherness without asking everyone to live the same way.

At Kanuka Street, shared spaces sit at the centre of the home, while quieter areas give each generation somewhere to step away.

Now that the frames are up, those relationships between spaces are starting to take shape.

Designed for living together, with enough independence built in too.
