Electric vehicles are changing the way Kiwis get around, but what about the way we charge them?

A dedicated wall mounted EV charger provides a convenient and efficient way to regularly charge your EV at home and should be installed to suit your home’s electrical supply and charging requirements.

Before installing one, it’s also important to consider your home’s existing electrical supply and wiring to make sure it can handle the additional load.

And with smart chargers, you may also be able to schedule charging for off-peak times, depending on your electricity plan.

💡 John Leader Electrical Myth Buster

❌ MYTH:
Turning your heat pump up to 30°C will warm the room faster.

✅ FACT:
It won't.

Heat pumps don't work like a kettle. Setting the temperature much higher doesn't make them heat the room any faster, it simply tells the unit the final temperature you're aiming for.

Consumer NZ recommends setting your heat pump to a comfortable temperature (around 18–21°C in winter for most situations) and allowing it time to do its job.

Keeping your filters clean and your heat pump serviced regularly will also help it perform at its best.
