The H1 Schedule Method is being removed from 26 November 2026. From that date, all new residential building consent applications must use the Calculation Method or Modelling Method.

The difference matters: The Schedule Method was a lookup table by construction type. The Calculation Method is a separate R-value assessment for every wall, roof, and floor assembly in the building, calculating each aspects contribution toward the heat-loss in your home. We prefer this method as it gives the opportunity to achieve practical insulation outcomes and clearer accounting of where heat-loss is within a building.

If you have a new build in planning and haven't lodged a consent yet, confirm your designer is working to the revised method before you lodge.

Clear on what he liked from day one. ✏️
Grant sent through his inspiration, and within the same day the first sketch was on paper. One change to the contract plans: we added a bedroom.
Having a clear vision, and a great neighbourhood to build in, made the whole design process smoother. And it comes to life a bit more every time you see it.

The dream was always to build on a bigger section. 🏡
Grant found one that ticks every box: private, on the golf course, a corner section at the end of the road, and only 10 minutes from the city. Space to breathe, close enough to everything.

The last week of design progress and consent approvals alongside Generation Homes Canterbury:

- One Home underway with Consent Documentation.
- Two building consents approved through different councils.
- Three Downsizer Home Plans developed
- Four plan development meetings over current & new projects
- Five live projects taking their next steps through the Detailed Design process.

Didn't expect the view from up here.

At ground level you're looking at fences. One storey up and
you're over the top of the middle of Palmy. That's what the
upstairs windows in this unit are pointed at.

It's the back section unit, separate from the others. Entry opens
onto the open dining and living, kitchen off it, and the living space
gets you out to the outdoor space.

Nobody designs a townhouse expecting a view. This one got one.

You don't need a new house.

What still surprises us is how much a renovation improves the way
people live in the house they already own.

Same walls. Same street. Same title. What changes might be where the
kitchen sits, where the afternoon light lands, and whether you
can see the kids from where you're cooking.

Clients get to the end of it and say the same thing. "I never
thought this could be my new home. And it's a renovation."

The slab went down today, so we're not walking on it.

Update three at Edenmore Terrace.

The view set the floor plan. Living room sits on the view side
and faces it straight on. Kitchen and dining turn the other way
and look out to the street. The master bedroom sits directly
above the living room and gets the same outlook, one storey
higher, across the city.

Rooms you sit still in face the view. Rooms you move through
don't.

Next update in a couple of weeks.

Yes, please do. Sometimes we hear it and it almost always means there's a conversation we haven't finished yet, and this gives us the chance to improve an aspect of the design

Yes, two front doors? No, you're not seeing things.

This Generation Homes Canterbury build coming up is a Home and Income design. The main home is a 3-bedroom home with a double garage, plus an attached 2-bedroom minor unit that can house family or be rented out long-term or short-term.

The main home sits at the back of the site with its own private rear yard. The minor unit takes the street frontage, with its own entry off the road and its own outdoor space.

The island is does wonders in this kitchen.

Bench space on the cooking side, seating on the other, and a low wall between the kitchen and the rest of the room. Fluted green front, the end panel running down to the floor in one piece. Copper coloured mixer, sink set into the run, black stools tucked under one side.

The part you will benefit from the most in this kitchen is the hidden door behind it to the scullery off the main run, so the small appliances and the unpacked shopping sit out of sight while people are still in the room.
