Painting is our Passion since 1948- Making people happy is our Mission

22/10/2026

Not every exterior needs the same approach.
Some surfaces are in good condition, while others need more attention before painting can begin...

That's why looking at the existing paintwork, cladding, exposed areas and overall condition of a home is such an important starting point. It helps us understand what's involved and talk through the best approach for the property.

If you're considering exterior painting in Nelson or Tasman, spring is a good time to start planning - get in touch to arrange a consultation and quote.

There's plenty to think about when renovating.

The layout, the joinery, the flooring, the lighting - and eventually, how everything will be finished.

But painting and decorating shouldn't have to be an afterthought.

Talking through the surfaces, finishes and project timing early can help everyone understand what's involved before the work reaches that stage.

Whether you're refreshing one room or planning a more substantial renovation, our team can work alongside you and your builder to discuss the painting and decorating requirements.

When you're looking at the outside of your home, the large wall areas tend to get most of your attention.

But take a closer look at the window frames, trims, corners and areas where different surfaces meet.

These smaller details can tell you a lot about the condition of the existing paintwork. They're also areas that deserve careful attention when planning a repaint.

If your home's exterior is on the to-do list, it's worth looking beyond the main walls.
Our team can assess the property and talk you through what the job involves.

When you look at a beautifully finished kitchen, it's easy to focus on the overall design.

We tend to look a little closer.

The painted edges, the corners, the consistency of the finish and the way all the individual pieces come together.

Spray-painted joinery is a specialist part of what we do, working alongside joinery makers and fitters to achieve the intended finished look.

It's detailed work, and the details matter.

Paint isn't always the answer.
(there - we said it)

Wallcoverings are another part of the decorating work undertaken by our team, and they're an area where the details really count.

This year that side of our work received some particularly satisfying recognition, with Coastal View Yacht House named the 2026 Master Painters Category Winner for Commercial Wallcoverings.

A great result for the team - and a good reminder of just how broad professional painting and decorating can be.

If you're considering wallpaper or wallcoverings for an upcoming residential or commercial project, talk to our team about what's possible.

If you know us mainly for house painting, there's another side of the business you might not see as often.
Our team works across residential, commercial and specialist projects, including spray finishes, joinery and furniture work.

That breadth means there's usually something interesting or different happening somewhere across the McKenzie team.

And we'll be showing you more of it.

Have something outside the ordinary that needs painting or finishing?

Thinking about painting the exterior this spring or summer?
The first conversation shouldn’t necessarily be about colour.

Before getting to the finished look, there’s the existing condition of the surfaces to consider and the preparation the job will need.

Getting that groundwork right is an important part of getting the finish right.

If exterior painting is on your list for the warmer months, now is a good time to start the conversation - contact our team to discuss your exterior project.
