A huge thank you to our project partners and the wider team whose collaboration, knowledge and commitment helped bring the Port Tarakohe Management & Amenities Building in Tākaka to life.

We're honoured to share that the project has been named a Finalist in the Best Design Awards 2026 in the Private, Public and Institutional Spaces / Spatial category.

Thank you: , , , and Manawhenua Ki Mohua representing Ngāti Tama, Ngāti Rārua and Te Ātiawa, and artist Robin Slow, whose contributions helped shape a building that reflects the identity, history and cultural significance of Port Tarakohe.

It's wonderful to see this collaborative effort recognised.

How do you build on the edge of a 22-metre cliff?

Difficult sites are where experience earns its keep. Knowing which questions to ask first, which specialists to bring in early, and where the real risk sits long before anyone draws a wall.

Cliff House sits 22 metres above the water on an Auckland coastal cliff, with a brief to match the site:

🏘 A home that could hold three generations at once.
3️⃣ Three levels.
🛏️ Five bedrooms.
✨ Generous open-plan living.
🎮 A media room.
🍸 Bar
💪 Gym and cellar.

Connected to the main residence is a fully self-contained one-bedroom suite for grandparents, with its own front door and its own quiet. Independence without distance.

The house turns decisively toward the ocean. Cantilevered living spaces reach out over the drop, glazing opens the seaward face completely, and the street elevation stays composed and largely solid. Private on arrival. Entirely open once you are inside.

Materials follow the setting. Natural sandstone for warmth and durability. Vertical timber weatherboards for softness and texture and detailing built for what a marine climate does to everything over time.

Masterplanning starts with understanding the needs of the local community and future residents. At Silverbrooke in Porirua, this shapes a layout of 200 homes across 22 hectares of ex-forestry land, working with the existing landscape rather than against it.

The masterplan retains existing woodland and topography, connecting homes to a network of walkways and cycleways. Higher density housing is positioned close to public parks and reserve areas, keeping recreational space within easy reach for the whole community.

A range of roof and plan forms brings variety across the development. Sunshades, porches and balconies mark entries and add shelter and character, while options within each typology suit different price points and layout requirements.

Designs focus on efficient floor plans, daylight admission and indoor/outdoor connectivity, with careful consideration of security and privacy.

7 Star Homestar Built rating achieved — Bethlehem Shores' Care and Apartment building in Tauranga has achieved the highest Homestar rating of any retirement village in Aotearoa, and the largest Homestar Built project in the Bay of Plenty.

None of this happens without a great team. Congratulations to Arvida Group and every project partner who made this possible.

A 7-Star Homestar rating means the building is independently verified to be significantly warmer, drier, healthier, and more energy-efficient than standard Building Code requirements, with real reductions in heating and cooling costs. That comes down to:

💧 Health & ventilation — moisture and condensation control, keeping the building mould-free and well-circulated

We spend most of our time designing for people. This project asked us to think differently.

We are delighted to see the Capuchin Monkey Exhibit area at now open to the public.

It was a privilege to contribute to this community-led project. The new habitat gives the zoo's six capuchins significantly more room to climb, explore and play, a big step up from their previous space. Designed with natural materials, climbing structures and open sightlines, it's a place that supports the monkeys' natural behaviours while giving visitors a genuine chance to observe and learn.

This project came together through local spirit, with contributions from over 20 businesses and generous donations from the public. It's a great reminder of what's possible when a community gets behind a shared cause.

If you haven't been down to see it yet, it's well worth a visit. Congratulations to everyone at Natureland Wildlife Trust and all involved in bringing this project to life.

Delighted to see the new Capuchin monkey enclosure at Natureland completed. It was a privilege to contribute on this project and see the monkeys settling into their new home!

Community celebration this Saturday from 11am for anyone keen to see it in person. :)

Delighted to open the new enclosure for Nelson Natureland’s six Capuchin monkeys that gives them an open space seven times than their previous caged space. Here with zoo manager Leah Foster, Linc Cook ( who cut the ribbon with me) and Trust Chair Drew Hayes.

These captivating and intelligent primates are native to South America and one of the only species of monkey that use tools. They were very excited to be in their new enclosure with 35 year old matriach Georgina leading the way.

Saturday from 11am is a community celebration of the new facility and a great opportunity to see these monkeys in their beautiful new home.

Huge thanks to the 22 local businesses who contributed to this project with everything from skilled labour to materials including Downer, Donaldson Civil, Tasman Roofing, Wakefield Engineering, Kumanu, Higgins Concrete, Edridge, Pumps and Filters, Independent Kerb and Concrete, TM Covers, Tasman Pine Forests, Industrial Marine Electrical, Chambers and Jackett, JTB, Elliot Sinclair, Fabriweld, Placemakers, Hampidjan NZ, WE, Dean’s Nursery, Design Art and Tahunanui Beach Holiday Park. Community donations of over $20,000 helped fund the heated den.
