Big Sis and myself set off from Bordeaux yesterday heading to Chinon, a 350k drive in our rental car, a few unexpected scenic detours and only 4 angry drivers honking their horn, negotiated around the 100’s of trucks on route, starting off driving very slowly but did manage to get to almost speed limit 130k, but not quiet.
Stopped off at Angouleme for lunch, being a Monday most eateries were closed did manage to find an Italian deli open and when I asked if there was anything dairy free, the reply was, this is an Italian deli in France, the very cute Italian did find me a yummy chicken salad
On getting to Chinon stopped for important supplies like wine brandy rum bread cheese and pate, arriving at our accommodation had a couple of drinks a quick snack and into bed a very tiring day.
Waking up this morning and headed to have a shower only to find the shower doesn’t work, so had a bath, which to most wouldn’t be a problem but for these 2 old ducks getting into the bath was ok, getting out was a challenge almost needed to call for help but a couple of tricky manoeuvres managed to extract ourselves out 🤣🤣
This morning we walked up to the Royal Fort, what an amazing place, the history goes back to the 1100’s, Joan of Arc helped the King of France recapture his territory from here, mind boggling stuff.
As the town is closed for lunch and siesta we decided to join them, heading out soon for a spot of wine tasting
Adding to this, have been and visited a winery right in the centre of town, and all in caves very interesting, they don’t use oak barrels only concrete, and on my goodness the taste is so different, need to try Clos de L’Echo from Chinon, another great day
