All it takes is a vision, and then some good people around you.

2 years ago, I had a vision to make the Kerikeri river walkway, from Rainbow Falls to the West, into a fully accessible track.

This flat track needs gates to keep stock in and motorbikes out, but it was also stopping a chunk of the community from being able to use it.

I know how much being outdoors can help with your mental health, and there aren't many places available for wheelchairs, and those with prams to enjoy being out in nature.

I found the incredible David through the Kerikeri River Restoration Project page, and connected with him to collaborate on this project.

David sourced the design, got the necessary permission from Far North District Council and got our awesome builder Roger involved.

I presented this to the Bay of Islands - Whangaroa Community Board who jumped on board with the funding for this project.

Today work started on the project, and I took Mum in her wheelchair down, and a friend with her double pram, to test the design for size. It's going to be fabulous.

It's a work in progress, and there is still plenty to be done, but it just shows what can happen when you collaborate with others.

I now challenge the Far North District Council to make sure all community members are considered when doing more development.
