Renovating an existing home is a little different from starting with a clean sheet.
Plans and preparation are important, but once the linings start coming off, you get to see how the house has actually been put together — including previous alterations, framing details, services and sometimes a few things nobody could reasonably have known were there.
That doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a problem. It just means part of renovation work is understanding what you’ve got in front of you and working out the best way forward.
It’s all part of working with existing homes — understand what’s there, deal with what you find, and keep the project moving.
