AG-TECH FIELD TECHNICIAN WANTED!
Right. Letβs be honest with each other.
This job involves driving a ute down a lot of muddy farm tracks, being inspected suspiciously by cattle, and occasionally lying on a concrete pad in a Dairy shed trying to figure out why a ram isnβt ramming. If that sounds like a Tuesday youβd be okay with β keep reading.
Chris Perrett Electrical Solutions Limited is a born-and-bred South Taranaki business. Weβve been keeping the region switched on for years, and weβre expanding the exciting world of agricultural technology β think animal drafting systems, data networks across farm buildings, wireless access points beaming internet to sheds that have never seen WiFi in their lives, and pneumatic rams that sort cattle with the quiet confidence of someone whoβs done it a thousand times.
We need someone to help us do all of that. Specifically, someone who:
β’ Knows computers well enough to image a machine without Googling every step
β’ Can wire up an ELV drafting system without it looking like spaghetti
β’ Can configure a wireless access point and explain to a farmer why the cows walking past it isnβt actually causing the dropouts
β’ Isnβt scared of a compressed air line.
β’ Holds a clean NZ driverβs licence (the ute wonβt drive itself yet)
β’ Is a NZ resident or holds a valid NZ work visa
You DON'T need to be a qualified electrician. You DONβT need a computer science degree. You DO need to be the kind of person who figures things out, finishes the job properly, and doesnβt leave a site looking worse than when you arrived.
A background in security systems, AV installation, ICT support, or anything involving cables and a healthy disregard for clean clothes would be a real advantage. Rural experience? Even better. Hands-on experience with MikroTik, Ubiquiti, Beckhoff, or Ruijie gear? Weβll be very interested.
What youβll get:
β’ Competitive pay based on what you actually know
β’ A company vehicle (youβll need it)
β’ Interesting work in places Google Maps sometimes refuses to acknowledge exist
β’ A team that wonβt make you feel stupid for asking questions
β’ The quiet satisfaction of leaving a farm smarter than you found it
β’ For the right person β a pathway toward Limited Electrical Practitioner (LEP) registration or a full electrical apprenticeship if thatβs the direction you want to head
Warning: This role may result in an in-depth knowledge of cattle behaviour, a strong opinion about cable management in dusty environments, and a genuine fondness for the smell of a Dairy Shed in the morning.
