These old girls have had a serious makeover! 🚪

Nearly 100 years old, these doors arrived absolutely covered in years and years of old paint, with borer damage, holes, gaps, dents and plenty of battle scars from a lifetime of use.

What followed was copious amounts of scraping, sanding, filling, gapping, more sanding… and then even more filling and sanding! 😂

It was definitely not a quick job, but with a lot of patience and some serious prep work, we’ve managed to bring these beautiful old doors back to life while keeping the character of the original timber and detailing.

This is why the prep work matters. A good finish starts long before the spray gun comes out.

100 years old and ready for another couple of decades 👌

Another beautiful set of doors ready for their new home! 🤍

These Parkwood NZ bare pine & MDF 4-panel shaker doors have now been professionally spray finished in the timeless Eighth Rice Cake, and they’re ready to be collected.

What many people don’t see is the amount of preparation that goes into achieving a flawless finish. Every door is meticulously prepared, including gapping all joints and panel lines before any paint is applied. This extra step helps create crisp, seamless lines and ensures the finish not only looks exceptional but stands the test of time.

It’s the attention to the finer details that makes all the difference, and we’re proud to deliver doors that are ready to become a feature of someone’s home.

The difference is in the details.

We recently had these doors sent to us because the original finish just wasn’t up to standard. The edges were transparent and furry, the grooves were rough, there were paint runs, and a frame packer had even been painted over.

We believe a quality paint job starts long before the paint is sprayed. Proper preparation, attention to detail, and taking pride in the finished product are what separate an average finish from one that will look great for years.

Sixteen years ago these glazed finger-jointed doors were finished in a 2-pack Mirotone coating by a local Napier painting company that has since closed its doors.

After years of wear and tear, chips, splitting and general ageing, the homeowner was on the hunt for someone who could restore them rather than replace them. That’s where we came in.

As you can see from the before photos, they had definitely seen better days. After repairing, preparing, gapping and refinishing them, they’ve been completely transformed and are ready for many more years of service.

One thing we’ve noticed over the years is that while 2-pack coatings certainly have their place, they aren’t always the best choice for glazed finger-jointed timber doors. As timber naturally expands and contracts, we’ve seen the harder 2-pack finishes become less forgiving over time, which can contribute to cracking or splitting on these types of doors.

For this project, we refinished them with a coating better suited to the application, giving the doors a beautiful, durable finish while allowing for the natural movement of the timber.

They’re now curing nicely in the workshop until the customer is ready for installation, and we couldn’t be happier with the result.

Sometimes you don’t need brand new doors—you just need the right preparation, the right products, and a team that cares about getting the finish right.

It never gets old seeing our finished doors hanging in a brand-new home. After all the measuring, building, painting and finishing, it’s incredibly rewarding to see the final result. We think these Superior Avon doors look right at home and are the perfect finishing touch. Thanks for having us be part of another amazing build!

There’s something incredibly satisfying about seeing a project come together from start to finish.

These Parkwood 2.2H Vertical Shaker 3 Panel doors arrived as raw timber and have now been transformed into a flawless finished product, ready for installation in a beautiful Design Builders Hawke’s Bay home.

A lot of preparation, attention to detail, and care has gone into every door, and we’re thrilled with how they have turned out. Looking forward to seeing them installed and becoming part of the finished home!

Not every painting job is just paint! This old door had a broken window frame detail that needed some TLC before we could get colour on it. Dean repaired and reshaped the damaged section, bringing it back to life and ready for a fresh finish. It’s the little details that make all the difference.
