For more than 30 years, this Coromandel bach has been the place its owners come back to from Wellington.

They’ve owned it since the 1980s, but with single glazing, little insulation and all the quirks of an older bach, it was very much a summer-only place.

Now, downstairs has been completely gutted and rebuilt, with new insulation, joinery and double glazing making it comfortable year-round.

But the really exciting part? Taking the view to a whole new level.

We’ve added a second storey with a new bedroom and day room. Suddenly, a view this family has enjoyed for decades looks very different from up here.

Five years ago, rugby legend Sam Cane and his wife Harriet built their dream home with Urban Homes.

“Friends and family have asked, would you build with Urban again and, the answer is definitely yes! Absolutely! The process has been amazing. We got the home we wanted – and more!”

We followed Sam and Harriet through every stage of their build, from choosing interior and exterior colours and finishes, to benchtops, bathroom details, and roof and wall claddings.

Building is nearing completion at our Kelly Road subdivision in Cambridge, a private enclave of Urban Homes builds, all within walking distance to local amenities and close to the cycling tracks, the Velodrome and Cambridge Raceway.

This sun-drenched, north-facing home is one of the latest builds in this subdivision, featuring a beautiful sloping ceiling in the living and dining area, high interior doors, and a large covered alfresco with skylights.

We were proud to host the 30th LinkedIn Local Hamilton event at our Tamahere show home earlier this week. It was great to have some of our team and partners speak about their experience working on this award-winning home.

Supporting local doesn't always have to be a big gesture.

For most of this year, we've handed over part of our Whitianga office window to local mother and daughter artists Emma and Ali, whose paintings capture beaches and familiar scenes from around Mercury Bay.

And people are noticing.

We regularly see people stopping outside for a look, and quite a few of the paintings have now found new homes.

We're pretty stoked about that.

We've got a great spot on Blacksmith Lane, so being able to use a bit of our window space to help two talented locals get their work seen just makes sense.

The display changes regularly, so next time you're passing, stop and have a look. You might even find one that belongs on your wall.
