šŸ‰ There’s a new apprentice on site… and this one’s a bit of a character!

You might remember Mo the Sloth and Kitty Cat helping out on our Country Reno a little while ago… well, word must have got out that Burns Construction is hiring. šŸ˜‚

This week, Stephen’s daughter sent her colourful dragon along to see what Dad gets up to at work — and Stephen made sure there was no sitting around!

So far, Dragon has had a go on the table saw, helped with the exterior finishing and even joined the painters. šŸ”ØšŸŖššŸŽØ He was a white dragon at the start of the day! 🫣

We’re not entirely convinced about the health & safety record… and productivity may have taken a slight hit… but enthusiasm is definitely 10/10. šŸ˜‚

We love these little moments on our sites. Building homes is serious business, but there’s always room for a bit of fun — especially when it means Stephen gets to take some photos home and show his daughter what her dragon got up to at work with Dad. ā¤ļø

At this rate, we’re going to need a dedicated Burns Construction toy apprentice programme!

Sometimes the hardest decision is knowing when a house has reached the end of its life.

Today marks the beginning of the final stage of our subdivision project Tunawhakapeke.

The diggers rolled in to demolish the existing house, making way for 36 new homes that will soon become part of this growing community.

At first glance, this house might not have looked that old—it was built around 30 years ago. But after years of deterioration, it had reached a point where restoring it simply wasn’t the best long-term solution.

Rather than trying to save a home that had significant issues, this site will now provide quality, warm, healthy homes for dozens of Waikato families.

It’s always a little bittersweet saying goodbye to a house, but we’re excited to see what comes next.

Follow along as Stage 3 takes shape over the coming months. If you're considering a subdivision project of your own, you can learn more about how we work here:

ā€œWow... every space just works.ā€

It’s probably one of the comments we hear most when people walk through a Burns Construction home.

ā€œThere’s no wasted space.ā€
ā€œEverything feels like it’s exactly where it should be.ā€
ā€œThe layout just makes sense.ā€

The truth is... that’s never by chance.

Before the first sod is turned, before the foundations are poured, before a single piece of timber arrives on site, we’ve already spent countless hours refining every detail.

šŸ“ Reviewing plans.
šŸ” Walking through designs.
šŸ–„ļø Building and testing them in 3D.
šŸŽØ Laying out colours and materials.
āœļø Tweaking elevations.
šŸ“ Moving walls by millimetres.
šŸ’” Asking ourselves one question over and over...

ā€œCan this home work even better?ā€

It’s often the things you’ll never notice that make the biggest difference.

A hallway that’s just wide enough.
Storage exactly where you need it.
Natural light where it matters most.
Rooms that flow naturally from one to the next.

That’s the difference thoughtful design makes.

Because building a beautiful home isn’t just about how it looks...

It’s about how it feels to live in every single day.

Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest difference. ā¤ļø

Meet Mo the sloth... and her new workmate, Kitty Cat. 🦄🐱

Our foreman, Stephen, has a tradition of bringing his daughters’ sloth teddy, Mo, to site and sending home photos of all the ā€œimportant workā€ Mo gets up to during the day. Usually that involves plenty of mischief alongside the construction!

This week, Mo was joined by our clients’ four-year-old daughter’s teddy, Kitty Cat, and together they spent the day ā€œhelpingā€ build the house. They climbed framing, inspected the workmanship, supervised the team... and, of course, got themselves into plenty of trouble along the way. šŸ˜„

At the end of the day, Stephen shared all the photos with our clients, and their little girl absolutely loved seeing what her teddy had been up to while her new home was being built.

Building a home isn’t just about timber, nails and concrete. It’s about creating memories from day one and making the journey just as special as the finished house.

We’re incredibly proud to have people like Stephen on our team who take the time to create moments like these. It’s a small act of kindness that makes a big impact.

šŸ” Countryside Reno – Progress Update! šŸ”ØāœØ

It’s hard to believe these photos are of the same house.

What started as a typical rural home is now being transformed into a modern country residence designed for family living and taking advantage of the incredible views.

One of the things we love most about renovation projects is uncovering the potential that’s already there. By extending the home, reworking the layout, and modernising the exterior, we’re creating something that feels completely new while still retaining the heart of the original home.

The best part? We’re not finished yet.

Stay tuned for the next update as we move closer to completion. We think the finished result is going to be something pretty special. šŸ‘Œ

šŸ” PROJECT COMPLETE šŸ”

From an empty site to 14 brand-new homes in just 8 months.

We’re proud to officially hand over this 14-apartment development after an incredible journey of planning, coordination, problem-solving, and hard work from everyone involved.

Projects of this scale don’t happen by accident. They require a great team, strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers, and a commitment to keeping quality high while maintaining momentum on site.

Over the past 8 months we’ve watched this development transform from foundations and framing into a vibrant new community that will soon be home to 14 families.

A huge thank you to our team and all the trades who contributed to making this project a success. The result is something we’re incredibly proud of.
