Do you know what powers your aluminium?
Producing just one tonne of aluminium requires approximately 13–14 MWh of electricity. With that much energy involved, the source of the electricity matters.
Depending on where aluminium is produced, the smelting process may be powered by coal, gas, or renewable energy such as hydroelectricity.
At New Zealand’s Tiwai Point smelter, aluminium production is powered predominantly by renewable electricity from the South Island.
For architects, builders and homeowners, choosing NZ-made isn’t only about where a window or door is assembled.

It’s also about understanding the energy, manufacturing capability, and supply chain behind the aluminium itself.

There’s something important behind every locally made window and door: local knowledge.
Our windows and doors are manufactured right here in New Zealand by people who understand our homes, building requirements, and conditions.
Choosing locally made means supporting New Zealand manufacturing while choosing windows and doors made for the place they’ll ultimately call home.

⚠️ Buyer Beware: Not Every Certification Mark Is Genuine

The Window & Glass Association of New Zealand (WGANZ) has recently raised serious concerns about an increasing number of non-compliant windows and doors being sold in New Zealand, including products carrying labels and certificates that appear to indicate compliance but may not be genuine.

https://www.wganz.org.nz/media-release/

MBIE has also issued an alert to all Building Consent Authorities regarding concerns around non-compliant windows and doors.

From our side, we're seeing it firsthand. We've recently measured up to replace imported products that were already deteriorating after just one year, and we've supplied replacement doors for a development after the original products were rejected by council.

Your windows and doors are a long-term investment in your home. Don't assume a sticker or certificate means a product meets New Zealand standards.

✔ Ask where the product comes from.
✔ Verify the certification.
✔ Make sure the products are designed and tested for New Zealand conditions.

It pays to know exactly what you're buying.

When we say fewer emissions, we mean it, and we can prove it.
At Tiwai Point, over 330,000 tonnes of aluminium are produced each year, with one of the lowest carbon footprints in the world.
Around 2 tonnes of CO₂ per tonne of aluminium, compared to the global average of 13.
It’s not just better aluminium. It’s better by design.
