As you may have seen NZ is gearing up for an β€œExtreme Le Nino” weather pattern, this is a warm and dry weather pattern therefore if you are wanting to cut hay/ baleage this season please do aim to lock up your paddocks well in advance, if you are keen to try for both a hay and a baleage cut then we recommend if you haven’t already then to lock up paddocks now and aim for cutting as soon as weather allows.

We appreciate we haven’t released pricing for the coming season but would be great to have a message to say if you’re hoping to cut so we can be as organised as possible, Matt & Archie will be out checking ground for rolling - If you are on the rolling list and know you have a particular wet paddock or area please let us know ahead of time.

We are unlikely to have much supplement available off the paddock this season, if you are concerned you wont be able to store all the hay you will need for the full year then please remember that medium round (or large!) hay bales can store in fairly good condition outside as the netting does give some protection from the weather, if left until mid winter you do tend to loose the first round of the hay but the remaining is 9.5/10x still beauitful, the other option is to store your conventionals inside a shed, medium round bale any additional land you have, store that outside and use those bales first.

You should not need a tractor to handle Medium round HAY, it is very easily to push/roll /stand up.

Alternatively there is always baleage that can be considered but that does need some green to it to allow for the sugars to ferment.

We are yet to lock in pricing from suppliers to confirm our own prices for the 26/27 season however we do want to give advance notice there will unfortunately be an increase due to the fuel not having returned back to pre-war pricing (it is currently 56% higher than last contracting season).

It may be that the price per bale or per hour may change throughout the season depending on fuel increases/ decreases or that there may need to be fuel surcharges IF there’s too much of an increase but we will do our best to ensure open communication about that.

And with all the wet weather and the spring winds starting early it’s time to think about booking in some paddock TLC with a bit of rolling.
If you’re wanting cuts of baleage then ideally you’ll want to be locking (or locked) up already, when the paddocks are fully chewed out it’s also a great time to have a quick walk around, check for anything in the paddock that would need marking or moving before tractors & mowers come in during spring.

Side note - Our roller is both wide and heavy therefore we do need a minimum of 12ft gate access.
