This tired coastal outdoor space had great bones, but it was ready for a thoughtful refresh. By focusing on a few well-considered improvements rather than a complete rebuild, we were able to transform the space without blowing the budget.

The renovation included:
• New timber decking to create a more inviting outdoor living area
• A simple, low-maintenance planting palette suited to the coastal environment
• Improved parking and access
• Practical, durable materials designed for easy care
• Enhanced connection between indoor and outdoor living

We’re excited to see Stage 1 of the Pūtaringamotu Riccarton Bush Enhancement Project completed.

Kamo Marsh were proud to be the Landscape Architects and Project Lead for this stage, which includes a new boardwalk carefully designed to follow the natural contours of the bush while being elevated to protect mature and growing trees and their root systems.

The boardwalk is fully accessible for prams and wheelchairs, with new seating and interpretation signage creating an inviting space for people to stop, explore and connect with this unique native environment.

A big thank you to Morgan & Pollard for bringing the design to life with an outstanding construction job.

Whether you live in Christchurch or just visiting, we encourage you to take the time to walk through this easily accessible oasis of native bush in the heart of our city.

A unique and popular community space has been created as part of the Westwood development in Faringdon, Rolleston.

Kamo Marsh Landscape Architects were excited to design the surrounding landscape for this unique pump track environment, creating a balance between the dynamic curves of the track and a softer natural landscape setting.

The planting design uses robust, low-maintenance species to soften the hardscape, integrate the track into its surroundings, and create a welcoming green space for locals, families and visitors.

Carefully considered pathways, seating areas, shelter structures and open lawn areas provide opportunities to ride, relax, gather and connect.

A fantastic example of how thoughtful landscape design can transform a recreational facility into a vibrant community destination.

Set against the stunning Queenstown landscape, this med-density townhouse development was all about creating a place that feels welcoming, private, and connected to its surroundings. 🌿

With commercial offices at ground level and residential living above, the landscape needed to be both aesthetic and practical. Strategic fencing, hedging and carefully positioned planting create privacy where it’s needed, while maintaining an open and contemporary feel throughout the development.

Working closely with the wider project team, we also helped integrate feature walls and landscape elements that add character and help define the different spaces across the site.

A palette of grasses, trees and native planting was selected to complement the natural environment and provide year-round interest, while remaining robust and low maintenance. The result is a landscape that softens the built form, enhances the arrival experience, and sits comfortably within Queenstown’s remarkable setting.

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate Liv Hawtin, who has been awarded the Peter Rough Award of Excellence for 2025 — presented to the student with the highest final mark in LASC 409 Major Design.

Liv is also our most recent graduate employee, and we’re thrilled to have her on the team.

Her final-year project focused on Paihia in the Bay of Islands, exploring how design can recognise the interconnectedness of moana (ocean), whenua (land), and tangata (people).

Congratulations Liv — an incredible and well-deserved achievement 👏.

Framed by the stunning Millbrook landscape, this residential garden was designed to embrace outdoor living and make the most of the magnificent view.

From the sheltered fireplace courtyard to the pool terrace and layered planting, each space connects seamlessly with the surrounding beauty of Central Otago.

Locally sourced hard landscape materials were carefully selected to reflect the natural character of the region, paired with a low maintenance planting palette that complements the seasonal colour and textures of Central Otago.

A timeless outdoor environment designed for relaxing, entertaining and soaking in the incredible Queenstown setting.

Award-winning design, rooted in place.

Recognised for its thoughtful integration of indoor-outdoor living, the Weka St project balances refined spatial design with the relaxed character of Ōtautahi living.

From strategic planting that frames views without dominating them, to outdoor spaces calibrated for both everyday ease and celebration, every detail serves the rhythm of how people actually live.

At Ōraka–Drift Bay, we crafted a multi-generational landscape that honours both family life and the dramatic Queenstown environment.

From a putting green and grandchildren's playhouse to climate-responsive native plantings that anchor the site against the Remarkables, every element balances purposeful design with panoramic views of Lake Wakatipu and Cecil Peak.

Proving that thoughtful landscape architecture can be both breathtakingly beautiful and built to last.
