Buying a house in Christchurch?
Before you sign anything, here are the foundation questions your building report should be answering.
• Are the floor levels within acceptable tolerance?
• Is there evidence of past or ongoing movement?
• Were earthquake repairs actually completed properly?
• Are there visible cracks, settlement, or non-compliant repairs?
• Could the issues affect insurance or resale later?
• Is further investigation recommended before going unconditional?
In Canterbury, foundation issues aren’t always obvious during an open home.
That’s why a proper pre-purchase assessment matters, especially on earthquake-affected properties.
