Howard Construction- Design and build Architectural Homes from Canterbury to Kaikoura Life is good.

Howard Construction
Starting out as a farm boy in Kaikoura, mum always said i was born with a hammer in my hand, as i was growing up there was never any doubt i would become a builder. After 12 years in the trade, I now lead my own team of extremely large boys, an interior designer wife who keeps things looking pretty, several groups of subcontractors whom I have complete trust in to do the job right first time, and then very occasionally i even get the odd weekend away to go hunting. What We Offer
A Completely personalised service, in terms of fixed price contract homes or an open book system if you would prefer (cost + margin)
A complete project management service if desired
You can be as involved or detached as you like
We are very experienced and specialise in architectural home builds
We work at a quick pace with extreme attention to detail. Fast is good to get your house built, but it’s the quality that keeps it that way

We want you to enjoy your building experience. We work off referrals and we are always busy, so its our absolute priority that you are happy with our speed and quality of work.

HOUSE STORIES IN A NUTSHELL:

Started build as a couple of busy professionals,
They hatched a third.
Now one of them is a busy professional by day and a dance mum for every other waking hour, and house is simply a vessel for storage of dance outfits🩰💃😂

Count to 5. Take a deep breath. Try not to say something you will regret….what ever you like to call it.

After years dealing with the public in retail this was one of Bobbie’s biggest take aways, and its works across every part of life.

Having a neurodiverse family - this is one where we aim for the best…but no one is perfect. However in a business environment it sets us up well for the daily hurdles that life throws at you in the building world. Responding clearly, practically and not reacting becomes a way of life.

HOUSE STORIES IN A NUTSHELL

Preston downs

First spec build in Preston Downs
We lived in an old dump while we built this
Bobbie cried when it sold because she would have rather lived there
This was the beginning of the West Melton trajectory

It’s come a long way… 👀

The last progress photo we shared from this renovation looked a little different to this one!

Fast forward to now and it’s really starting to come together.

There’s still a bit happening behind that front door, but transformation is loading!

Renovations can look pretty chaotic in the middle, but all of a sudden you can see the light!

When you are a boutique building company the juggle is real. The owner knows your project, knows where it’s at, knows the budget, knows your name…also probably knows important details, like if you like hunting.

This is intentional- because we like it this way.

Welcome to Kirwee.🌳

This one feels especially good to get started!

These lovely clients have had a bit of a journey getting here, with a few planning changes throwing some extra hoops into the process along the way.

With the not so fun paperwork behind us. Now we get to do what we came to do- build it!

A little throwback to this West Melton custom build 🤍

This lovely testimonial has been sitting in the archives for far too long, and it was definitely worth sharing.

We were lucky enough to work with these clients to create a home that was completely their own thoughtfully designed and beautifully finished to their tastes.

Years later, feedback like this and the lovely memories attached to it still means just as much.

Our custom home build is tracking and this week we are in gib mode!
It feels like our Christchurch new build has quickly gone from construction site to a house that’s coming together.

Why do we install our own GIB?

We’ve been around a while and we’ve seen some things. Over the years or quakes, weather and settling in homes popped screws became a noticeable issue we were seeing in people’s homes after the build. These aren’t a structural fault more of a pimple on the otherwise blemish free face of the home.
So captain OCD Stu Howard, tried something new. He stopped using gib fixers and trained our guys effectively on how to carry out this trade in such a way that gib pimples were largely eradicated.

Keeping things in house means we can control the quality more easily and ensure the standard we expect. We realise we can’t control everything, but this small outside the box idea has been such a game changer for us long term

This week in builds we’ve never gotten around to posting since we have the social media consistency of cottage cheese.

This gorgeous Halswell Quarry project with the bathroom palette of Bobbies dreams.

The same large matt tile over floors and ceiling, Warm brushed bronze accents, a touch of creamy textured tiles to draw the focus and topped off with some natural timber tones.

Chefs kiss.
