A huge congratulations to Louise Carey! 🌿🏠

As she approaches 9 years with Arthouse Architects, Louise continues to inspire us with her dedication to learning, sustainability, and design excellence.

After becoming a Registered Architect in December 2021, Louise has gone on to achieve Certified Passive House Designer accreditation in 2022. She has now added Certified Homestar Assessor to her growing list of qualifications and is currently undertaking the Residential Energy Modelling - Designer Course.

Louise’s passion for creating better-performing, healthier homes and her commitment to ongoing professional development embody everything we value at Arthouse Architects. Her expertise, positivity, and collaborative approach make her an invaluable member of our team.

We’re incredibly proud of all you’ve achieved, Louise, and are excited to support you on the next stage of your professional journey.

We’re thrilled to share that Tāwhaki Nui-a-Hema at Motueka High School has been shortlisted for the 2026 NZIA National Architecture Awards.

Designed in collaboration with Sheppard and Rout Architects , this project is the result of an exceptional team effort.

Located on iwi-owned land, engagement with mana whenua provided guidance on being inspired by the story of Tāwhaki and weaving cultural narratives into the fabric of the building. Zara Allen’s artworks, enrich the experience of the building and strengthens its connection to place.

This two-storey mass timber Maths and Horticulture teaching block demonstrates how sustainable construction can create healthy, inspiring environments for learning. The use of locally sourced timber, generous natural light, and strong connections to gardens and growing spaces support student wellbeing while reducing environmental impact.

Most importantly, the project is about equity in education. Every young person deserves access to learning environments that are uplifting, adaptable, and designed to support their success. Tāwhaki Nui-a-Hema is part of a wider vision for Motueka High School that invests in rangatahi and celebrates the unique identity of its community.

We’re incredibly proud of everyone involved and look forward to welcoming the Te Kāhui Whaihanga NZ Institute of Architects judges later this month.

One of the most rewarding parts of our work is returning to a project once it has been lived in and loved.

Seeing this home settled into its surroundings, with the landscape maturing and the owners making it their own, was a reminder of why we do what we do.

A beautiful day in the Marlborough Sounds and a wonderful catch-up with the clients. Thanks for having us back.

Last week the Christchurch team enjoyed a sneak peek through the completed Andover Townhouses before they head to market.

It was a great opportunity to walk through the finished spaces together and see the design details come to life — from the light-filled living areas to the refined material palette and thoughtful low-maintenance planning.

We love the opportunity to work on truly unique projects—and this expansive car garage certainly ticks that box.

Constructed from off-form concrete and corten steel, and home to a collection of high-performance European cars, this is far from your average ‘shed’.

A bold, architectural statement set within the landscape—one of a kind in every sense.

Congratulations to the Bayleys Richmond team on the opening of their new office! We loved bringing this space to life, with design elements that quietly reference the surrounding landscape – including the variation in the cedar battens, inspired by the Richmond Ranges connecting Marlborough and Nelson.

A space that feels connected to place, creating a welcoming and professional environment for both the Bayleys team and their clients.
