An important milestone for our next project in Hamilton, with resource consent now granted for 53 new homes at Te Rapa Road.

Home Construction is proud to be the main contractor on this development, working alongside Kāinga Maha and a wider team of consultants and project partners to bring it through the planning stages and into construction.

For our team, some of the most important work has already happened well before the first digger arrives on site.

A major part of the project's development has involved reviewing how the homes can be constructed efficiently, while maintaining the quality, durability and performance expected of a development of this scale.

One significant decision was the move from a precast concrete structural approach to the Stackcell in-situ concrete formwork system. Our team has invested considerable time in research and development alongside Kāinga Maha, Blueprint Consulting Engineers and specialist partners to work through the practical application of this construction methodology.

It's the sort of decision that influences much more than the structure itself. It shapes construction sequencing, site logistics, trade coordination and ultimately how efficiently a project can be delivered.

The development will comprise 35 two-bedroom and 18 one-bedroom homes, designed to Homestar 6 standard, alongside shared green spaces and community facilities.

With resource consent now in place, we're looking forward to progressing into the next stage of works and seeing this development take shape.

Beautiful work on the completion of 12 homes at Emmett & Orcades Street in Christchurch.

We’ve followed this project right through from foundations and frames, to roofs going on, landscaping taking shape and now the finished homes ready for their next chapter.

A strong result from our Christchurch team and the many local Build Partners, subcontractors, suppliers and consultants who have contributed across every stage of the project.

Fantastic to see all 12 homes across the line and looking this good.

Great to see another major step forward at Liana Lane, Rolleston with the external works and hard landscaping now taking shape.

There’s been a huge amount of work across these 10 homes over the past few months, and this stage is a good reminder of just how much coordination goes into getting a development like this towards completion.

A big effort from our site team, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants and project partners who have all played a part in getting Liana Lane to where it is today.

Plenty still happening on site, but fantastic to see another major piece of the project underway.

We want to take some time to honour Ramonette Gray and recognise the huge contribution she has made to Home Construction.

Ramonette has been part of Home for more than 13 years, and during that time she has played an incredibly important role in helping shape the strength and stability of our organisation.

Now our Chief Financial Officer, Ramonette brings more than 18 years of financial experience across the pharmaceutical, travel and construction industries. She is also a qualified Chartered Professional Accountant in the Philippines and Australia/New Zealand.

But her contribution to Home goes well beyond the numbers.

Ramonette helps guide some of the biggest decisions we make as a business. From financial planning and compliance through to long-term strategy, she brings the clarity, discipline and insight that allows us to keep moving forward with confidence.

Just as importantly, she understands that financial stewardship is about more than a balance sheet. It is about protecting the organisation, supporting our people and making sure Home remains in a strong position to continue delivering on its purpose for years to come.

Over more than a decade with Home, Ramonette has helped maintain the financial resilience of the business through periods of growth, change and challenge. That foundation has enabled us to keep investing in our people, our projects and the communities we build for.

She is also someone who invests in those around her, mentoring others within the finance team and leading with the same values and sense of purpose that sit at the heart of Home.

What we build matters. But so does how we get there.

As part of becoming a Certified B Corporation™, Home Construction Limited had to provide evidence of what happens behind the scenes, including how we support and develop our people.

That meant backing up things like:

- Paying every employee at or above the Living Wage
- Health benefits and additional health and wellbeing leave
- Parental leave support
- A staff bonus pool, so when the business succeeds, our people share in that success
- Professional development, training and career pathway support
- EAP and mental health support
- Apprenticeship and workforce development opportunities
- Strong health, safety and wellbeing practices

And importantly, we couldn’t simply say we did these things.

We had to show it.

Policies, contracts, data, processes and supporting evidence all formed part of the assessment.

That’s one of the things that made becoming B Corp Certified so valuable to us. It wasn’t just recognition of the homes we deliver. It was independent verification of how we operate as a business too.

Because how we build matters just as much as what we build.

Today, we’re proud to share that Home Construction Limited is now a Certified B Corporation™.

New Zealand has more than 500 Certified B Corporations. Now one of them builds houses.

This certification follows a two-and-a-half-year, independent assessment of the whole business. B Lab™ assessed how we operate across governance, workers, community, environment and customers. Every answer had to be supported by documented evidence and reviewed before it could count.

Home Construction achieved a B Impact™ Score of 148.9, against the 80-point threshold required to certify.

Some of the evidence behind that result included:

- More than 75% of on-site construction waste from assessed projects recycled or reused by weight

- Every employee paid at or above the living wage

- $5.78 million donated to charitable causes in the year assessed, alongside 1,260 volunteer hours from our team

B Corp certification is not a label for one home, project or development. It is company-wide verification that Home Construction Limited meets standards for social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

It gives our clients, build partners, funders and communities an independently verified view of how we operate, while also holding us accountable to keep improving. Certification is reassessed every three years.

Fantastic to have so many people come through Liana Lane, Arbor Green on Wednesday for our mid-build event.

It was a great opportunity to open the site up, show people through two of the ten homes currently under construction and give a closer look at the project at different stages of the build.

With the Formance SIP structure still exposed in parts of the homes, our Design and Innovation Lead Josh Milne was able to talk through the thinking behind the build, the materials being used, and how each element contributes to a home that is warmer, more comfortable and more efficient to live in.

That performance matters, but so does delivering it in a way that remains achievable for the people these homes are ultimately being built for. Arbor Green is a good example of what can happen when performance, design, buildability and affordability are considered together from the outset.

A big thank you to Kāinga Maha and our project partners and suppliers Formance, Our Basis and Ambiance by STÄRKE for being part of the afternoon, and to everyone who came along, asked questions and took a closer look at the work happening on site.

And of course, FUSH for keeping everyone well fed.

We are proud of the progress at Arbor Green and even more excited to see these homes heading towards completion.

Mainland Pouakai are getting ready to tip off their 2026 season on 26 September, and we’re proud to get behind the team again this year.

If you haven’t experienced a Pouākai game before, this is a great season to change that. There’s nothing quite like getting courtside, bringing the family along and getting behind some of Canterbury’s best basketball talent.

The Pouākai are doing great work growing the women’s game, creating opportunities for players and giving young basketball fans some brilliant role models to look up to.

Fantastic progress taking shape at our Emmett & Orcades Street project in Christchurch, with all 12 homes continuing to move forward well.

A special shoutout to one of our key Christchurch Build Partners, One Square Rate Landscaping & Hydroseeding who have now started landscaping works across the project. It’s great to see this next stage getting underway.
