Does solar increase the value of a home?

It can make a home more attractive - but I would never promise a fixed dollar increase.

Buyers tend to value systems they can understand and trust. That means:

• quality equipment
• tidy workmanship
• clear warranties
• complete certificates and inspection records
• monitoring that actually works
• no confusing finance or ownership arrangement attached

A badly documented system can become a question during a sale. A clean, compliant system with an organised job pack is much easier for the next owner to appreciate.

The immediate value is the power it produces while you live there. Any resale benefit should be treated as a bonus, not the whole reason for installing.

Good solar becomes part of the home. Make sure it is something you would be proud to hand over.

West Coast weather outside. Useful stored energy inside.

For this Moana project, ZEN Energy designed a 10.45kW array using 22 Longi 475W panels. Our team connected it to a Pylontech 8kW hybrid inverter with 10.24kWh of battery storage and a backup changeover arrangement.

The panels were split across two strings, with the DC protection, earthing, AC protection and monitoring all finished neatly.

What I like about this setup is the balance. There is a substantial array for the available roof, enough storage to carry useful energy into the evening, and backup capability without making the installation unnecessarily complicated.

Thanks to ZEN Energy NZ for the design and to the team for another well-finished job away from Christchurch.

Moana looked good before. The solar did not hurt. 🌿

We have now had our Solassure Certification through SEANZ for around 4 months, and I still see it as something worth being proud of.

Not because we needed another logo for the website.

Although, let's be honest, that part is always nice too.

For us, Solassure is more than a certificate. It is a way of showing that the work we do has been checked against a proper industry benchmark. It looks at quality, compliance, workmanship, safety, and whether a company is actually trying to do solar properly, not just quickly.

The solar industry is growing fast in New Zealand, and that is a good thing. But fast growth can also bring a race to the bottom, where price becomes more important than quality. That is not where we want to be.

We received Solassure because we were able to show the systems behind our work. Not just the finished panels on the roof, but the way we manage installation, documentation, standards, safety, and long-term responsibility.

It also pushed us to improve. We reviewed how we record jobs, how we check our work, how we manage compliance, how we support the team on site, and how we make sure every system we install is something we can stand behind years later.

Was it fun doing more paperwork?

No.

Did it make us better?

Yes.

And that is the point.

I am proud of the Grenz Electrical team for taking this seriously. Good work does not happen by accident. It comes from habits, standards, and people who care about the result.

Solar is not just about generating power.

It is about building systems people can rely on.

Tai Tapu gave us the kind of roof solar installers like to see—good space, clean lines and room to do the job properly.

For World Solar NZ , our team installed 30 Trina 445W panels with an Entelar 10kW hybrid inverter. The 13.35kW array was divided evenly into three strings, keeping the electrical design tidy and the roof layout balanced.

Behind the panels sits all the work that matters later: secure cable management, array bonding, DC protection, correctly sized AC supply, labelling and monitoring.

Thanks to World Solar for the design and to the client for having us at the property. The team delivered a simple-looking result, which usually means plenty of thinking happened before anyone climbed the ladder.

Clean roof. Clean electrical work. Good day out in Selwyn.
