🔨 Meet James!

Thought it was about time we started putting some faces to White Oak Construction!

This is James, my apprentice, hard at work on one of our renovation projects.

We're a small team, and one of the things I really enjoy about running White Oak is getting stuck into the work together.

We'll be sharing a bit more of what goes on behind the scenes, so you can get to know the people working on your homes.

🏡 Old Homes. New Life.

After more than 18 years in the building industry, one thing I've always enjoyed is the challenge of renovating existing homes.

Unlike building new, every renovation is different. Older homes especially can throw up a few surprises, and finding the right solutions is all part of the job.

For me, it's about more than just making a home look better. It's about giving older homes a new lease on life, keeping their character while making sure they're built to last.

This recent exterior transformation is a great example of what can be achieved.

That's why renovations are such a big focus for us at White Oak Construction.

Thinking about renovating your home? Whether it's a small upgrade or a major renovation, I'd be happy to have a chat about what's possible.

Making homes more accessible 🏠

This client came to us after a family member started needing a wheelchair and was finding it difficult to get in and out of the house.
We worked together to find a practical solution, replacing the existing steps with a new access ramp and handrails.
A relatively simple change that can make a huge difference to independence and everyday life.
If you need help making your home more accessible, get in touch.

Planning a renovation? 🏠

One thing I often recommend is getting your builder involved before your plans are completely finished.

Having a builder look over things early can help make sure what’s being designed is practical to build, works with your budget, and can sometimes identify opportunities to save money before everything is locked in.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before talking to a builder. An early conversation can save changes, delays and extra costs further down the track.

If you’re thinking about renovating, extending or altering your home, I’m always happy to have a chat and help you work through what’s realistic.

Thinking about renovating? Before you get started, here are five simple tips that can save you time, money, and stress.

✓ Plan your budget – Keep 10–15% aside for unexpected costs.
✓ Think long-term – Choose quality materials that will last.
✓ Get the right approvals – Check if consent is required before starting.
✓ Choose the right builder – Look for a renovation specialist with proven experience, not someone who does a bit of everything.
✓ Have a plan – Think about how you'll manage cooking, bathrooms, and day-to-day living during the renovation.

Planning ahead makes all the difference. If you're thinking about renovating and would like some advice before you start, we'd be happy to help.

This is very much just the tip of the iceberg of the renovation we're working on at the moment.

What started as a couple of spongy and uneven floors quickly turned into something much bigger. After a bit of investigating, we discovered borer had taken hold and caused significant damage to the floor framing.

With a bit of finesse (and a lot of hard work), the team at White Oak Construction removed the damaged timber, repaired and strengthened the floor framing, installed new insulation, and laid a brand-new plywood floor—leaving it stronger, warmer, and ready for the next stage of the renovation.

Are you thinking about replacing your carpet or flooring? Do your floors feel spongy, uneven, or squeaky underfoot? It's always worth investigating before laying new floor coverings. The last thing you want is to spend thousands on new flooring only to discover there's a problem hiding underneath.

Renovations aren't always about the things you can see—some of the most important work is what's hidden beneath your feet.

If you've got concerns about your floors or are planning a renovation, we'd love to help.
