We were honoured to deliver another important stage in the development of Takapūneke Reserve and pleased to be part of the dawn ceremony and opening during Matariki.

Takapūneke is a nationally significant wāhi tapu and a place that tells an important part of our history in Aotearoa New Zealand. Citycare Property is privileged to have contributed to this project, working alongside Christchurch City Council, Ōnuku Rūnanga Inc Soc and the wider project team, helping create spaces where people can learn, reflect and connect with the stories of this special place.

Our Structures and Landscapes team constructed significant structural elements, expansive and complex decking with, boardwalks, staircases, rock retaining walls, pathways and play features of the discovery trail, while our Planting and Maintenance team did the extensive native planting across the reserve. The opening was made even more meaningful by hearing the stories of Takapūneke from Ōnuku whānau, seeing the community come together, and joining volunteers to plant another two thousand native plants.

We are proud to have played a part in a collaborative project that will help people connect with the landscape, understand its significance and honour the history it carries.

The International Antarctic Centre reached out again this year for support with its penguin habitat, and we were pleased to help. For the third year, the Citycare Property Christchurch Road Landscapes team is pleased to support the rescued little penguins at the International Antarctic Centre by delivering harvested flax from sites the team maintains.

Keepers hide the flax around the habitat, encouraging the penguins to search for it and carry it back to their nests. Both male and female penguins take part in nest-building, which supports natural behaviour and provides enrichment and mental stimulation.

Our team regularly maintains flax across several sites to preserve clear sightlines. Repurposing some of it for the penguins reduces landfill waste and gives the fibrous material a useful purpose while supporting the penguins and their keepers.

Citycare Property’s project team is proud to have delivered the new Queen Elizabeth II (QEII) Park community play space for Christchurch City Council (CCC).

Located in North New Brighton, the area has long been associated with recreation and leisure. The park’s legacy stretches back to 1974 when it was developed as a major sporting venue for the 1974 Commonwealth Games. The new play space adds another chapter to that story, with design touches that acknowledge its Commonwealth Games heritage while creating a welcoming, contemporary destination for the community.

We’re pleased to have successfully mobilised our facilities maintenance team at Linton Military Camp, marking another important milestone in our delivery of the NZ Defence Force (NZDF) Facilities Maintenance Services contract.

On 3 August, our team was formally welcomed with a mihi whakatau led by the New Zealand Defence Force Cultural Advisory Group at Linton.

We are deeply honoured by the warm welcome. Citycare Property’s executive leadership joined our new Linton team for the occasion. Our kaikōrero, Mark Brown (Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga), spoke on behalf of Citycare Property, followed by a mihi from Acting Chief Operating Officer Craig Taylor.

Craig says, “It was a privilege to be part of this special mobilisation at Linton. We are very proud of the team we have in place and the mahi they will deliver in support of NZDF. This is another important step in building a strong, collaborative relationship focused on operational readiness, service quality and the long-term stewardship of Defence estate assets.”

Our Linton team will be helping to maintain the facilities that support Defence personnel, whānau and the wider camp community.

Our team is making great progress on the City to Sea East project we’re delivering on behalf of Christchurch City Council. Running between Porritt Park and SH74 in Avondale, this shared walking and cycling path is part of the wider Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor Regeneration Plan.

We’re proud to play our part in creating a safer, more accessible route that brings people closer to the river and the natural environment. A big thank you to our project team and everyone supporting the mahi on site.

For 100 years, Nathan Homestead has been part of Manurewa’s story. As a heritage site, its gardens are planted with colourful perennials and annuals that reflect its history and keep the grounds welcoming for everyone.

Citycare Property is proud to play a part in maintaining this special place, from the lawns and flowerbeds to the playgrounds and bush tracks. It’s a privilege to help care for a site that belongs to the community and continues to bring people together.

For the past nine years, Citycare Property has delivered facilities management and open space maintenance across South Auckland. We have always aimed not only to meet contract requirements, but to build real partnerships with local communities – finding practical ways to support them in mana-enhancing and meaningful ways.

As Citycare Property's Community Partnerships Lead, Jody Deer has helped build strong relationships between our teams and the communities we work alongside. Her mahi has led to Citycare Property having relationships with marae, community groups, local boards, and businesses. We have supported and led park clean-ups, planting days, and donated kai garden boxes to local churches, kura and communities.

Our Hāpai te Hapori programme helps local sports clubs such as the Ōtara Scorpions and Manurewa Marlins become contracted suppliers delivering services in their own neighbourhoods. It means more jobs stay local, more skills are built locally, and people can see the value of the work happening in their own communities.

That kind of impact does not come from a contract alone. It comes from trust, consistency and showing up over time.

We’re pleased to mark the successful mobilisation of our Facilities Maintenance contract for the NZ Defence Force (NZDF) at Burnham and Trentham Military Camps.

Bringing our kaimahi together to meet, train and learn was a key step ahead of go-live. Our teams connected at an informal meet and greet over a BBQ for whakawhanaungatanga (relationship building). Our first day on camp began with a mihi whakatau, followed by a comprehensive induction programme to ensure our teams are equipped with the key information required to deliver for NZDF, including health and safety requirements, as well as the standards and expectations for working on camp.

General Manager People & Culture Katrina Ede says, “Effective onboarding and induction are critical to ensuring our kaimahi feel connected, confident and ready to deliver. Taking the time to do this well sets our people and our teams up for success.”

Head of Defence Services Donna Spargo adds, “It’s fantastic to reach this point with a strong team line-up ready to deliver for NZDF. We were focused on a smooth mobilisation with no disruption to service delivery, and we’re looking forward to mobilising three more sites in the weeks and months ahead.”

This mobilisation reflects a strong, coordinated team effort alongside NZDF teams at Burnham and Trentham. Ngā mihi nui to everyone involved in making this a successful start.
