My recent work trip to Chatham Island was AWESOME!
I got a message saying, "hey, you're the traveling tree surgeon right/ Would you travel to Chatham Island for a job? We'll pay your flights"
Hell yea, that's the kind of message I want to receive! Adventure time 💯
I mean... how could I say no, really? If "The Traveling Tree Surgeon" won't do it, who will?
So I ventured to the land of the three Kings, Moana King, a modern day Oracle/Mystic/Seer, her husband Ian King, an absolute legend, salt of the Earth (and Sea) crayfisher, and his sister Jane King, a crack up shark tooth carrying story teller.
And indeed, I weaved some new threads into my own myth, as new insights around the king and the sword came from the Lady of the Lake - namely this: The sword that Arthur pulled from the sword was not the eternal Excalibur, that sword broke, and it was the lady of the Lake who gave him the True Sword. This reminds me of how you don't buy your own pounamu, but it is given to you by someone who recognizes your mana.
On this particular work week, I went down with a flu, and pushed through to still smash out the job, thanks to a generous amount of coconut water gifted to me on an island where those things are like $16 a pop... (seriously, $16 for a liter of coconut water, island prices are insane!) and during those couple days I was more like a princess than a King 🤣 sorry Ian 🙈 and thank you for your patience 😅🙏
One of the things I love about the island, and especially the land that I was staying on, is the Peace. The peacefulness of land and tree, bird and sea, lake shore and nothing but sky above. No distractions, no city lights, 'the system' feels far away...
I also love the thriftiness, fix everything yourself coz the nearest Stihl Shop is about 200km away... catch your own kai, fish, crayfish, the island does need a home kill butcher - so there's an opportunity there for someone wink wink
And the 60 million year old shark teeth we found on the lake shore are pretty dope.
Thanks Moana and the Kings for your warm welcome, I'm looking forward to coming back for more!
Hopefully when the days are longer and the sun shines brighter 🌞 (also keen to meet some Moriori descendants on the next one 😉)
Kia Ora Chatham!
