Beachfront Renovation | Living Spaces
The spaces we inhabit shape the way we feel, often in ways we don't consciously notice. Natural light, connection to the outdoors, texture, and materiality all play a role in how comfortable, energised, and at ease we are.
Our recent beach house renovation in Rarangi is a great example of how thoughtful design can transform not just the way a home looks, but how it feels. While the views were always spectacular, the interior lacked cohesion, felt disconnected, and struggled to capture the quality of light outside.
By improving the flow of spaces, reorienting light, and introducing textures and finishes to contrast and enhance each other and the surrounding landscape, the home now feels brighter, calmer and more connected to its surroundings. The result is a space that lifts the mood, invites relaxation, and makes everyday living more enjoyable.

Beachfront Renovation | The Vision & Solving the Layout

Every great renovation starts with a conversation. For this beachside get-away, our clients wanted more than an updated interior - they wanted a home that embraced its incredible setting and better supported the way they use the space.

Over the next few weeks, we'll take you through our design decisions and share how each space contributed to the overall transformation.

The biggest transformation came out of how the house functions. By relocating the primary living spaces to the ground floor, we strengthened the connection to the beach, outdoor areas and the landscape beyond. As a result, rooms feel brighter, more intuitive and much more connected to daily activities and surroundings.

Local business GMW Jewellery recently approached us following the purchase of a larger premises near their existing store. We’ve been helping refine the display layout and selecting finishes inside and out. It’s all coming together quickly, and we are looking forward to opening day! This Rarangi renovation was all about making the most of a beautiful beachside location. Our clients wanted us to reimagine the house so their primary living spaces were downstairs, creating a stronger connection to the landscape and outdoor living areas.
Our transformation included expanding the ground-floor living area, and creating expansive views out to the beach. A wide wrap-around deck completes the design, connecting the interior space with it's dramatic and soothing coastal setting.
