A little love for the humble Cistus, or rock rose! 🌸

These are such a valuable addition to our garden. They're tough, reliable and cope remarkably well with our awful clay hillside. 🌸🌸🌸

And as a bonus, they reward us with masses of beautiful, delicate flowers each spring.

🌿 The Libertia is Putting on a Show!

Mass planting libertia on our hillside was definitely a great choice! It's absolutely covered in flowers at the moment and looking beautiful.

Fingers crossed the flowers hang in there for Garden Marlborough next week! 🌸

Each year when we have a tour at Willows Green, we get a lot of appreciative comments about having the roses named. This year Dave and I decided to have a go at making new labels. The first few have been out for a couple of months so we know they handle the wet and the wind. This summer we will see how they cope with the UV. We have done around a quarter of the roses, the rest we will do once these are tried and true. In the meantime our old handwritten labels are just fine!🥀🥀🥀

The less glamorous side of Willows Green! 😂🌿

Dave had his annual mulch-making day the other day, and despite what looked like a long trail of mulch, after a day of spreading it around the gardens we realised we were a little short.

Getting mulch down the hill isn't an easy task — there’s no easy wheelbarrow track down the hill, so bags are definitely the easiest way to do it.

A big thank you to Chris for lending a hand and some muscle to get the bags down the hill. 💪

A good job done now!!!

🌿 A little more spring colour from the woodland at Willows Green.

This beautiful rhododendron is putting on quite a show at the moment, with masses of soft white blooms tucked amongst all the greenery.

And everywhere you look, the garden is starting to wake up — even the hydrangea underneath is bursting back into life with lovely fresh new growth.

I love this time of year when something seems to change almost every day. 🌿🤍

🌿 Sometimes you just let a plant do its thing…

Euphorbia can have a reputation for spreading — and yes, ours certainly does! But in this particular part of Willows Green, we're quite happy to let it go.

The ground here is mostly hardfill with what could generously be described as a token amount of soil. 😂 Yet the Euphorbia thrives, along with the irises, granny bonnets and a handful of other plants that have decided they're perfectly happy here.

At this time of year the Euphorbia brings the most wonderful burst of vibrant lime green to this part of the garden, and we love it.

Sometimes gardening isn't about fighting what wants to grow where — if something is happy in less-than-perfect conditions and looks this good doing it, we're quite happy to let it get on with the job. 🌿
