Not considering leaf drop.
Leaves that fall near the pool end up in the pool.

Aggressive roots near structures. Think Ficus Tuffi or Liquidambar. They crack coping, lift paving and get into pipework.

Ignoring mature size. New planting can look bare today, but cram it in for an instant look and you are digging half out in a few seasons. For instant effect consider larger grades.

In-situ concrete steps up to the front door, exposed pebble to match the existing landing.

That hole beside them is pre-dug for a jacaranda.
