April Employee of the Month goes to Ethan 👏

Thanks, Ethan, for always stepping in to help customers and support the team.

Putting Customers First is one of our core values at Guardian. On civil sites, that means helping project managers and crews get the right gear fast, keeping projects moving, and making sure teams have what they need to work safely and stay compliant.

That’s exactly what Ethan does every day.

Whether it’s helping organise trench shields for urgent jobs, tracking down site safety gear, or finding practical solutions when plans change on site, Ethan is always willing to jump in and help get things sorted.

Because in civil construction, delays create pressure fast. Crews are waiting, schedules are tight, and the right equipment matters.

Fast responses, reliable service, and people who genuinely care about getting the job done right make a difference.

That’s the standard we aim for at Guardian.

Nice work, Ethan. Well deserved.

How do davit arms make my site safer?

Recently, we got in touch with Naizal Buksh, the chief executive officer at BTS, who is a subject matter expert when it comes to davit arms.

He gave us the answer to this question…
“Industrial man-rated davits are critical pieces of kit that allow workers to safely access and egress into confined spaces like manholes, tanks, and other difficult entry workspaces. Used with either a fixed or portable ground base paired with a man-rated rescue winch, they provide a practical and user-friendly safety solution when quick and effortless rescue is required for workers in confined spaces”.

In short, davit arms are the piece of kit that can safely remove or lower your team/ materials into a trench.

It’s a lot harder to get a man out of an unstable trench if he’s not harnessed to a man-rated davit arm safety kit.

Keep your trench team safe today by hiring a man-rated davit arm kit!

Even if it's a small open trench the risk of a pedestrian stepping into it is there.

When pedestrians or light vehicles are moving through site, you need a cover that’s quick to place, solid under load, and built to handle real conditions.

We’ve added two new reinforced plastic trench covers to the range — both with rubber edging for better grip and safer placement on site.

• 1600 x 1200mm - https://www.transquip.co.nz/Guardian-Civil-Reinforced-Plastic-Pedestrian-Trench-Cover-Rubber-Edging-1600x1200mm?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=Facebook&utm_campaign=Pedestrian+trench+covers_GC_12.05.2026
• 1200 x 800mm - https://www.transquip.co.nz/Guardian-Civil-Reinforced-Plastic-Pedestrian-Trench-Cover-Rubber-Edging-1200x800mm?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=Facebook&utm_campaign=First+sign+to+change+suppliers_FB_12.05.2026

Simple gear. But it solves a real problem — keeping people moving safely while work carries on.

Because on-site, it’s not just about getting the job done.
It’s about doing it safely, without slowing everything else down.

If you’re not sure what setup works best, we’ll talk it through with you.

The first sign you should change suppliers: they stop getting the basics right.

• The wrong product turns up.
• Delivery slips.
• You’re chasing answers.
• No one takes ownership.

Getting it right across ordering, delivery and follow-up support is what you need.

When that slips, your confidence goes with it.
If you’re seeing the signs, it might be time to rethink who you’re relying on.

Are you saying about your supplier what our customers are saying, “If it’s urgent Guardian get it out straight away or you do your best. You always have someone around”. - Micheal Rooney, Rooney Pipelines - Civil – Infrastructure.

When the job’s ready to go, the last thing you need is a supplier who can’t deliver.

Because in this industry, it’s simple... whoever has the gear gets the job.

“Great to know we’ve got someone local in Wellington for shields, especially with freight costs going up. Makes a real difference.”

Every site is different — but the goal never changes: get the job done safely, on time, and without compromise.

That’s why crews like Rooney Pipelines – Civil – Infrastructure choose Guardian shields. Because trench safety isn’t just about strong gear — it’s about having a partner you can count on when the heat’s on and the deadline’s close.

“Are your shields strong enough for deeper or unstable trenches?”

It’s a fair question. When you’re working in tight, wet, or unpredictable ground, the last thing you want is gear you don’t trust.

That hesitation is real — especially around lighter systems and potential damage.

But here’s what customers are saying on the job:

“They’re a pretty strong shield compared to some of your competitors in the same range.”
— Michael Rooney, Rooney Pipelines

That comes from real use. Real conditions.

Our shields are designed for the work you’re actually doing — and backed by a team who’ll help you get the right setup for the job, not just send gear and hope it works.

Because this isn’t just about equipment.
It’s about making sure your crew is protected and your job keeps moving.

Not sure what speed bump you actually need for your site?

It’s a common question on civil jobs. You know vehicles need to slow down, but choosing the right speed bump can be harder than it should be.

Project managers ask us things like:
Why have speed bumps?
Are there different kinds of speed bumps?
How do you install a speed bump?

Getting these details right helps you slow traffic, protect your crew, and keep the job running smoothly.

So we’ve put together a short video answering the most common questions we hear from contractors about speed bumps.

Straight answers from people who understand civil sites.

How much does it cost to hire a trench shield?

It’s one of the first questions project managers ask when planning a job. But the truth is, there isn’t a single price.

Trench shield hire depends on several factors — and understanding them early helps you plan the job properly, stay compliant, and avoid surprises on site.

Here are a few of the main things that affect the cost:

✔ Depth and size of the trench
✔ Ground conditions and site access
✔ Shield configuration required
✔ Duration of the hire
✔ Transport and delivery requirements

Every site is different. The right configuration protects your crew, keeps the project moving, and avoids costly delays.

That’s why we take the time to understand the job first. Then we help you choose the right shield setup to match the site conditions.

Because the right gear — set up properly — keeps your project running smoothly and your crew protected.

Longer shield. Less downtime.

Rooney Pipelines needed to keep their job moving. The right trench shield made the difference.

Guardian’s lightweight 7.2m trench shield allowed their crew to lay longer sewer lengths in each section — helping them move faster while keeping the team protected.

“Your 7.2m shield allows us to lay a 6m length of sewer as opposed to the 5m shield, which increases productivity.”
– Michael Rooney, Rooney Pipelines

The right gear doesn’t just meet spec. It helps you get the job done.

If you’re tired of suppliers who slow things down, it's time to talk.
