Meet Donna, one of our supervisors at our Kraft Heinz Wattie’s NZ site and a real standout in our Hawke's Bay operations!

She joined us in 2022 as a casual security guard and spent her first two years working across a mix of our biggest Hawke's Bay sites - Kraft Heinz Watties, Hastings District Council Patrols and Panpac covering patrols, gate entry and inductions.

In that time she built the kind of on the ground knowledge that made her the obvious choice to step up when a full time Supervisor role opened up at Kraft Heinz Watties.

Since then, Donna has been leading an internal team of 10 who look after up to 600 staff at peak production across two sites.

The feedback we get from site managers and staff about Donna is how trusted, respected and well known for her kindness she is.

Donna has also earned a Diploma in Counselling and an operations diploma through Kraft Heinz Watties along the way.

A great example of what growing a career in security can look like. Well done Donna!

Our Retail Security Specialist Matt Murray was recently in Christchurch at Northlands Shopping Centre for the second round of retail security meetings bringing retailers, mall management and key partners together to work through what safer retail environments actually look like.

The focus of the sessions covered staff safety, crime prevention, staff training and building awareness of the NZ Crowded Places strategy.

Discussions ranged from immediate site level challenges through to broader retail crime trends being felt across the country.

What makes these sessions work are the partnerships behind them. We were joined by New Zealand Police, Kiwi Property, Oyster Property Group and ShopCare all willing to have honest conversations about what is happening in the sector and what can be done about it.

Highlighting current and emerging risks to retail management teams is one thing. Facilitating real solutions with the right people in the room is where the value sits.

Retailers need a platform to share their concerns. Our role is to make sure the right people are listening and that what comes out the other side is practical and measurable, not just theoretical.

Great work Matt and thank you to all our partners and attendees who joined us in Christchurch!

Big week for our Auckland manager Jason as he heads over to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. (And no, we did not send him over to check the perimeter fencing!)

Jason flew out last week as a boxing support coach with The NZ Team and will be with the squad through the opening days of the Games.

Outside of his role with us, he has spent the past two years as a development coach for the New Zealand junior boxing squad and coaches out of The Box Office in Howick.

He is also travelling with one of his own boxers, Jordan Wilson, who has made the NZ team in the women's 60kg division. Jordan only took up boxing just over two years ago which makes her selection a genuine standout and Jason is one very proud coach!

All the best to Jordan and the entire NZ team!

Today we celebrate a special day on our calendar, International Security Officers' Day!

Behind every uniform in our team is a person with a story. Parents, students, first jobs, second careers, people who joined this industry from every possible starting point.

What they share is the choice to do a job where showing up with empathy and kindness in the right moment can shift someone's entire day.

To every security officer across our business and beyond - thank you. Your communities are safer for the work you do every day!

❝ I would really like you to pass on my huge appreciation to young Jake in the security office please. He really is a pleasure to work with and makes sure I have all the relevant paperwork completed before entering the site. As I am sure you are aware, sometimes it can be quite a challenge to even get through the gate!! He is kind, patient, funny and helpful. He is a real credit to the whole team. ❞

Jake Creighton from our Pan Pac site keeps popping up in client feedback for all the right reasons, and they are part of a growing list of comments from people who work with him regularly and who walk away impressed with the way he does his job.

Well done Jake, you are an asset to the team and a valued part of the Pan Pac operation!

Sharing our guard appreciation for one of our team in Motueka, Jordan Stanton!

Three years into his role as an Ministry of Social Development NZ guard at the Motueka service centre, Jordan has become one of the friendly faces of the local MSD and the wider Motueka community.

Jordan tells us what he enjoys most about the job is getting to know the members of the community and supporting clients as they come through. No two days look quite the same at MSD, and Jordan enjoys the variation.

3 years and counting, thank you Jordan!

❝ Each day is different and I get to do a lot of walking, which keeps me fit, and I deal with a great mix of people. ❞

Jade is one of our superstar security officers based in Christchurch Hospital and she has found her fit in hospital security! The pace is unpredictable and the interactions can shift quickly.

Jade has a sharp instinct for spotting potential trouble which has prevented multiple bike and motorcycle thefts across the site, and she has defused a good number of situations before they had a chance to escalate.

Outside of work Jade is married to Daniel, another senior security guard at a different Christchurch hospital and you’ll find her stuck in the garden or spending time with her two dogs.

Security officers like Jade are what make our hospital environments safe. Thank you for all of your hard work Jade!

Retail security is not a static discipline and keeping teams ready for what the environment is throwing at them requires ongoing training.

Our Retail Security Specialist Matt Murray spent last week across Auckland and Tauranga spending time with our clients + frontline teams and time working through the practical work that keeps a retail security operation ahead of the curve.

That included scenario based training with one of our retail mall teams, working closely with WestCity to strengthen crime reduction initiatives, sharing insights from our international retail security network with local operators and continuing to embed our retail security strategy with the operations managers running these sites day to day.

The goal in all of this is creating safer retail environments for the people who work in them and the customers moving through them.

Weeks like this are a good reminder of the work our team puts in behind the scenes to keep raising the bar in retail security!

A big shoutout to Alanah from Noise Control Operations Support who stepped up this week in a way that made a real difference. Sometimes it takes one person and one decision to change how a customer feels about their entire experience!

We recently had a matter involving someone whose seized speaker had been returned incorrectly, meaning a brand new replacement needed to be sourced to make things right.

The original team member handling it had gone on leave. Rather than let the matter drift, Alanah stepped in and treated it as her priority from the moment it landed on her desk.

She picked up the phone and called them directly. Then she hand delivered the replacement speaker in person.

The person mentioned they had become frustrated with the process, not because of the original mistake, but because every previous update had come to them as a text or email.

Getting an actual phone call, and having someone turn up to close it out face to face, made them feel like the situation was finally being taken seriously and it was a gesture that was much appreciated and took the time to let the team know what a difference this made.

Alanah went well above and beyond on this one and made sure every party involved walked away with a good outcome.

Security today is built in layers. Technology, monitoring systems, access control, mobile patrols, manned guarding - each part serves a purpose and the operations that combine them well are the ones delivering the best results.

What a well trained, well supported security officer brings to a site cannot be replicated by a camera or a monitoring system.

Reading a situation/body language, de escalating a situation before it becomes a serious incident is something that no camera or sensor can replicate.

That skill is built through proper training and developed through experience and it remains the most valuable asset in any security operation. ✔️
