When you’re out Huia way doing a job and this is the view… you’ve got to stop for a minute and take in some fresh West Coast air. 😍

One of the best parts of the job is getting to travel all over Auckland and meet great people in some pretty amazing spots.

Not every day is glamorous though… sometimes it’s crawling around stubborn ranch sliders and old locks that haven’t moved since the 80s 😂

But days like this definitely make up for it.

🔒 Extra Security Tip for Your Ranch Slider 🔒

Ranch sliders are one of the most common entry points we see around Auckland — especially older ones with worn or basic locks.

One simple upgrade we recommend is installing a patio bolt.

Patio bolts add an extra layer of security by securing the door at the top or bottom, helping prevent the slider from being forced open from the outside. They’re a great option for:

❄️ WINTER READINESS – THURSDAY POST ❄️
DIY window handle fixes… we’ve seen it all 😅

From bits of string and makeshift catches… to handles held together with hope and old screws — we come across all sorts of creative DIY window “repairs” out on the road.

Sometimes the handles are:
• Broken or seized
• Snapped off completely
• Loose and wobbling
• No longer locking properly
• Or just plain worn out after years of use

And while some temporary fixes might “do the job” for a while… winter usually finds the weak spots pretty quickly 🌧️💨

🛠️ Throwback Tuesday! 🛠️

We come across some pretty old locks in our line of work… but this one definitely takes us back to the 50’s 😅

This front door lock is nearly 80 years old, and while parts and keys for locks like this aren’t exactly sitting on the shelf anymore, that doesn’t mean they can’t still be worked on.

For this job, we rekeyed the existing lock and supplied new keys — keeping the original hardware going strong. 🔑

Older locks can be a lot trickier to work on, requiring more time, patience, and experience, but with the right knowledge and tools, many of them can still be repaired, serviced, or rekeyed rather than replaced.

They definitely don’t make them like they used to!

😅 A Locksmith Story (True or Not… we’ll let you decide)

Once upon a time, there was a locksmiths was onsite replacing an old, stubborn deadbolt.

Everything was going smoothly… until it wasn’t.

While trying to persuade the lock into submission, it suddenly gave way — and in a very unfortunate chain of events, he managed to give himself an unexpected punch in the nose. 😬

Yes… the lock won that round.

When the story made it back to the office, there was absolutely no saving him — laughter, jokes, and ongoing reminders have been happening ever since.

Moral of the story:
Even locksmiths should probably keep their distance from flying hardware 😂

On a serious note, we always take care to work safely, even when the locks decide to put up a fight.
