We’re doing some native planting for  my lovely customers in Birkenhead. These gorgeous natives and Escallonia are going on a bank  behind the house and we get to carry some maintenance out on their lovely property and admire the stunning flowers that are popping up from previous years planting efforts.

A space made for a new family member 🐾 .

This outdoor space has been transformed into the perfect area for a new puppy to play, and enjoy.

No muddy paws being tracked through the house, no patchy grass, and no digging through garden beds. The premium artificial turf is soft underfoot, easy to hose down and leaf blown and stays looking great all year round.

It was a pleasure to assist a new client in Northcote with hedge and tree trimming today. They have an existing gardener, but specialized pruning services were required for taller specimens.

From completely overgrown to reclaimed, sprayed and fed.

This bank had become almost impossible to maintain. Years of weeds, overgrown roses, self-seeded plants and tangled vegetation had taken over, hiding the structure of the garden and making the entire area look neglected.

After a major cutback, careful weeding and a major amount of waste taken out using three of us we’ve uncovered the terraced bank. Now the roses have room to grow and weeds have been removed, leftovers sprayed and everything barked.

This is Anita’s garden today… and it’s exactly why I believe in investing in good planting.

A few years ago, I used to dread maintenance visits here. We’d spend hours weeding and tidying, only to return a few weeks later and feel like we’d barely made a dent. The garden looked tired, and the weeds always seemed to be winning.

Thankfully, Anita trusted me to create a long-term plan and invest in some beautiful plants. We added fruit trees, tractor seats, flaxes, flowering shrubs and other pollinator-friendly plants to create structure, colour and habitat for bees and beneficial insects.

Now, instead of fighting weeds, the garden largely works with us. The planting has filled out beautifully, helping suppress weeds naturally while creating a lush, layered space full of life and interest.

These days I genuinely look forward to my monthly visits. It’s incredibly rewarding to see a garden that has matured so beautifully and continues to improve year after year.

A great reminder that sometimes the best maintenance strategy is thoughtful planting from the start. 💚

Nothing beats the feeling of reclaiming a garden from invasive wild ginger!

Today we tackled a heavily infested area in Birkenhead, removing masses of wild ginger all over this property and opened the space back up for native planting and healthy garden growth. Wild ginger might look lush, but it’s one of Auckland’s most invasive pest plants, quickly smothering native vegetation and taking over entire sections if left unchecked.

A big transformation and another step towards protecting our local environment. Thanks to Pest Free Kaipātiki for providing the free gel as always.
