Proud to be featured in the latest NZCB magazine and to share a little of my journey in the building industry.

It’s been a path full of hard work, valuable lessons, and great people. I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had so far and excited to keep learning, growing, and seeing where the journey leads.

You can’t rein Northland in! 🤠🌿

What an incredible weekend at the NZCB Conference. Every year it’s a chance to learn, connect with great people, and come away inspired.

One of the highlights was listening to Gilbert Enoka speak. A lesson that really stuck with me was that when life gets stressful, don’t give up or shy away from it, run at it head on. Stress can actually be a powerful position to be in if you choose to embrace it. 💥

It was also great catching up with industry friends from around the country that you only get to see once a year. Those catch ups are always a highlight. We also spent time with some of our favourite suppliers, so a big shoutout to the teams at Paslode New Zealand , Milwaukee Tool NZ & ITM New Zealand

But the real reason Northland turned up was to celebrate our favourite uncle and local legend, Howard Harnett. Howard received the NZCB Honorary Membership Award, recognising his outstanding service to NZCB and the wider community. A well deserved honour for a truly deserving man. 🤎

To top it all off, Northland had another reason to celebrate, with our very own apprentice representing Whangarei/ Northland, taking out 1st Place in the NZCB Apprentice Challenge 2026. 🔨

Congratulations to Caidan Brien from Younger Builders, Mangawhai, who competed against 14 of the country’s best apprentices to claim the national title. Caidan, you’re humble, knowledgeable and incredibly talented. You’ve got a bright future ahead of you and Northland NZCB couldn’t be prouder.

What a weekend for Northland, celebrating a legend at the tail end of an outstanding career and a young gun who is only just getting started.

What a weekend on the tools 🔨

That time of year again where the best of the best apprentices go head-to-head in the NZCB Apprentice Challenge, proudly backed by BCITO & Mitre 10.

Eight hours. One build. No shortcuts.
The task, construct a Pataka (Sharing Cupboard) from a detailed set of plans, with a few curveballs thrown in for good measure. Real world problem solving at its finest. 🧠

Every apprentice put their skills to the test, working through the tricky components, thinking on their feet, and delivering some seriously impressive workmanship.

The best part … Every finished Pataka gets donated to a community, charity, or organisation that means something to them 🫶🏾

Safe to say, the judges have a seriously tough decision on their hands. Marking was tight and the standard was next level.

A massive congratulations to our regional winners

1st Place: Caidan Brien - Younger Builders
2nd Place: Marcus Shrubshall - Building & Beyond
3rd Place: Jaiden-Lee Radcliffe - Rhino Build

Caidan now advances to the national stage of the NZCB Apprentice Challenge, where he’ll face the ultimate test for the chance to take home the $10,000 top prize. Well done

Caidan, the Northland Crew will back you all the way mate.

Massive congrats to all our apprentices who got stuck in this year 🔨 Not an easy gig, but every one of you stepped up and delivered, serious effort all round.
