⚠️ Is Your Ducted Heat Pump extracting air from the Attic? ⚠️
During a recent service call, we discovered a ducted heat pump system with the return air side left completely open in the attic, with no return air grille or filter installed.
Why is this a problem?
❌ The system was pulling air directly from the attic instead of the conditioned living space.
This can lead to:
🔹 Poor indoor air quality – attic dust, insulation fibres, and contaminants can be circulated throughout your home.
🔹 Potential long-term health concerns – continuous exposure to airborne insulation particles and dust is not ideal for your family.
🔹 Higher power bills – instead of recirculating already conditioned air from inside the home, the system is trying to heat or cool unconditioned attic air.
🔹 Reduced system efficiency – your heat pump has to work much harder to maintain the desired temperature.
🔹 Increased wear and tear – leading to higher maintenance costs and a shorter system lifespan.
✅ A properly installed ducted system should have a dedicated return air grille located within the conditioned living area, complete with appropriate filtration.
If you're unsure whether your ducted system is installed correctly, it may be worth arranging a professional inspection.
A small installation issue today can become a costly problem tomorrow.
