Aashraya-आश्रय

Aashraya-आश्रय A group of graduates from IOE, Pulchowk Campus, volunteering to provide better relief shelter options for the survivors of the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake.

The 2015 Nepal earthquake, which killed more than 7,000 people and injured more than twice as many earthquake has crippled the day-to-day life of many villages and people here in Nepal. With millions of homeless Nepalese people compelled to live on tents on open fields, an alternative shelter is a current need. With monsoon looming it is even more essential to create affordable, quick and efficient alternative living space for these people. We are a group of graduates from Institute of Engineering working together to provide better shelter options for the victims. Inspired by the relief shelter by Eli Kietzmann in Pakistan in 2010 (https://www.facebook.com/mountain.wanderer.9/media_set?set=a.10153271103823750.1073741832.693738749&type=1) for people who lost more homes to flooding. We believe that these relief shelter could prove beneficial in the rural parts of Nepal. Initially we are targeting Lisankhu VDC of Sindhupalchok district where we aspire to build as many as 100 shelters as a startup. More than 700 houses have been devastated and additional problems due to landslide and road blockade have added to the plight of the people there. Our primary goal is to provide shelter for the people of Sindhupalchok until they are able to build their own permanent houses.
