The Unilever Factory in Nepal underwent a detailed two-day accessibility audit on July 28 and July 29, 2022, conducted by the Square Unit team, focusing on the accessibility of various blocks and plant facilities within the premises. The audit involved a systematic review of physical infrastructure to assess compliance with accessibility guidelines while addressing the specific requirements of an industrial setting.

The assessment actively engaged local user groups from Hetauda, whose inputs helped identify real, on-ground accessibility challenges and user experiences. Their participation ensured that the findings reflected practical needs and diverse perspectives.

This collaborative effort highlights a shared commitment to inclusive workplaces and the creation of accessible environments for all.

On January 30, 2026, as part of our CPD program, Ms. Rebika Karki delivered a reflective session that explored architecture as a practice shaped by context, community, and lived experience. A graduate of Khwopa Engineering College, she shared insights from her work across diverse regions of Nepal including Manang, Namche, Madi, and Chitwan highlighting how landscape, people, and place inform meaningful design responses. Drawing from her nearly three years of experience with Sustainable Mountain Architecture (SMA), the session emphasized context-driven and community-centric approaches rooted in local and vernacular understanding. Complementing her professional practice, her engagement with sketching, photography, and visual documentation as an active member and admin of Urban Sketchers Kathmandu offered an additional lens through which to observe, learn, and interpret the built environment. Through personal experiences and reflections, the session underscored the value of grounding architectural practice in place-sensitive thinking and continuous learning.
