A Norwegian summer is short, so a pool house has to be more than one thing. Poolhuset is a retreat, a teenagers’ den, an extra bedroom, and a place to sit after long dinners. It answers all four needs with a single structural decision: two beams running the length of the building, carrying cantilevered roof joists in a steady rhythm.

That rhythm shapes the programme. At one end, the joists extend into a pergola for outdoor meals; over the middle, they shelter the pool house; and at the far end, they form a covered outdoor shower overlooking the lake.
