We're in the process of a renovation project of an old log cabin from the late 1800's in Espedalen, Norway. The aim is to modernize the cabin while exposing as much of the historic craftsmanship as possible.

The main challenge is the unknown, as damage to the original structure is only exposed as the layers are removed. Securing the foundation to ensure the the building will endure another few hundred years is key.

It's great to be working with again with a new stair design for a cabin renovation in Lillehammer. The stair and bridge connect between an old log building and new extension. Constructed in raw steal and pine, a central bookcase forms the main bearing structure.

Stairs are among the most complex elements of interior architecture, and often the most rewarding to detail.

In this project, the staircase becomes a central spatial element, connecting levels through a series of solid oak treads suspended from slender vertical elements.

Transformation of an old log cabin outside Lillehammer.

Repaired and protected externally, with exposed log walls inside. A new entrance and stair room connects old and new, forming a generous double‑height space at the centre of the cabin.
