The old CB Brewery sits 400 metres from Markens, Kristiansand's main pedestrian street. A five minute walk.
Christianssands Bryggeri has stood along Setesdalsveien since the mid-1800s. The brick volumes, the industrial chimney and the weight of the building in the streetscape are part of how Kristiansand reads itself. A familiar sight along one of the main approaches to the city, even if few think of it as part of the centre.
The distance tells another story. CB sits closer to the centre than many streets we already count as central.
Our concept opens CB towards the city through two moves. A timber addition that meets the brick on its own terms, with a warmth and human scale that lets the historic building remain the historic building. And an activated facade along Setesdalsveien, with retail and public functions at street level and in the basement, offices on the upper floors, and outdoor spaces that give people a reason to stop.
A historic industrial building this close to the city centre has every reason to be a place people seek out.
Norsk:
Konseptet vårt åpner CB mot byen gjennom to grep.
