Smiemans Projecten BV: a modern, independent and family-owned company with its roots in greenhouse construction, specialists in all types of glass constructions. A Brighter Future for Blijdorp’s Elephant Enclosure

The renovation of the elephant enclosure at Rotterdam Zoo is nearing completion. And the difference is clearly visible.

The screens and wires have been removed, the new polycarbonate roof panels are in place, and the enclosure has been thoroughly cleaned.

The result: a brighter, more open and renewed environment, while making the most of the existing structure.

Another renovation project moving towards completion.

From concept to reality.

The first residential atrium in Hornbæk, Denmark, is almost complete.

A green inner garden where residents can enjoy daylight, plants and the feeling of being outdoors — protected from the weather, yet open when conditions allow.

Phase 2 is already taking shape. Early next year, we will start building the second atrium.

People. Plants. Climate. Together in one space.

Vitrum is taking shape at WUR.

The 3,120 m² entrance building will provide a central reception area, meeting rooms, workspaces and offices for Wageningen University & Research's new high-tech research centre.

The name Vitrum, Latin for glass, is now visible on the façade. Work is currently focused on the final preparations for pouring the concrete floors and installing the internal partition walls. The entrance itself will be completed towards the end of the project.

Proud to build this project in cooperation with Bom Group, in collaboration with Hoedbouw and Bodako.

🌿The last greenhouses have been dismantled at Göteborgs botaniska trädgård. PEAB is now preparing the site and we will return in spring 2027 to complete construction of the remaining botanical greenhouses.

The first improvements have begun, with more to come.

More daylight, better insulation and a better environment for elephants and plants, while the existing structure is updated.

A new home for the next generation of green professionals. 🌱

Last Friday, PTI West-Vlaanderen officially opened the new Campus Science & Green in Kortrijk.

More than 2,000 m² of glass architecture designed for hands-on learning, innovation and sustainable horticulture, from professional cultivation to vertical farming and aquaculture.

A place where students can learn, experiment and help shape the future.

Building the future for Planta Groencentrum B.V.

Planta is investing in a future-proof facility to further professionalise its business and offer customers an improved experience throughout the year.

Construction is now well underway, with the foundations taking shape. Behind the scenes, Smiemans Projecten is preparing the next stages through engineering, material selection and detailed planning.
