Wastewater treatment is rarely viewed as a revenue-generating operation. That perspective may be changing. 🌱

At Waterschap De Dommel in Tilburg, we integrated our biogas upgrading and CO₂ liquefaction technology into an existing wastewater treatment facility.

The result:
• Biomethane injected directly into the grid, equivalent to the annual gas consumption of 7,000 households
• 500 tonnes of food-grade liquid bio-CO₂ produced every month

What was once considered a residual stream is now recovered as a usable, biogenic alternative to fossil-derived CO₂ for industries including food & beverage, horticulture, and industrial cooling.

Combined with 100% methane recovery and long-term operational support, the project shows how existing wastewater infrastructure can unlock additional value streams without fundamentally changing the core process.

For operators already running sludge digestion, the infrastructure is often already there. The question is how much value remains uncaptured.

Site update: installation is progressing well on our PurePac Compact 700 Nm³/h project in Eldena, Germany. 📍

The system includes a complete biogas upgrading installation together with a Regenerative Thermal Oxidiser (RTO), designed to treat the CO₂-rich off-gas stream and ensure compliance with Germany's stringent emission requirements.

Projects like these play an important role in turning biogas into renewable biomethane while supporting environmental compliance and sustainable energy production.

It's always rewarding to see months of planning and engineering come to life on site.

Three farmers. One pipeline. One central hub. Producing biomethane and food-grade CO₂ at 99.9% purity, at scale. 🌱

In Heek, Germany, three local farmers consolidated their biogas production by interconnecting their individual plants via underground pipeline infrastructure to a central processing hub, where biogas upgrading and CO₂ liquefaction are co-located in a single integrated system.

The outcome is a highly efficient system producing 6.1 million Nm³ of biomethane and 9.1 million kg of liquid bio-CO₂ annually, at 99.9% purity.

What was once a waste stream is now captured, liquefied, and upgraded into a food-grade product. As the biogas industry continues to evolve, maximising every output stream is becoming increasingly important. Biogenic CO₂ is now a growing part of that conversation.

Our colleague Matthias Trüter Cordeiro will be speaking at CARMEN on 6–7 July, with his session taking place at 10:00 on 7 July. His talk will explore how biogas and biomethane can evolve into a scalable source of biogenic CO₂ for the energy transition.

The role of CO₂ in industrial systems is shifting. 🌱

Industries that once relied on fossil-derived CO₂ are under increasing pressure to find biogenic, traceable alternatives, and combustion plants that capture their own flue gas are increasingly well positioned to meet that demand locally and profitably.

Our CarboPac-C carbon capture systems capture CO₂ from post-combustion flue gas and purify it to over 99.99%, delivered as gaseous CO₂ or, with an integrated CO₂ liquefaction system, as food-grade liquid bio-CO₂ ready for food & beverage, industrial cooling, and greenhouse applications.

The systems are modular, prefabricated, and built to fit any combustion process: biomass boilers, gas boilers, lime kilns, cement kilns, RDF boilers and more. Scaling from 100 kg/hr up to 8,000 kg/hr, they fit into as little as a single container, making carbon capture a realistic option at virtually any scale.

Happy World Environment Day. 🌍

A day to reflect on how far the energy transition has already come, and how much further there is still to go.

When we started, we believed waste could be transformed into something valuable. That organic gases could be captured, cleaned, and turned into renewable energy instead of being lost to the atmosphere.

Today, that belief is reality across 35 countries, with 732 million Nm³ of biomethane produced annually and CO₂ recovered and given a second life in industrial applications.

But what matters most is not the scale, it is the people behind it. The engineers, project teams, partners, operators, farmers, communities, and industries turning ideas into working installations that make the energy transition real.

They are the quiet force behind every installation, every upgrade, every tonne of CO₂ captured and every cubic metre of biomethane produced.

That is the part we never take for granted.

And there is still so much more to build.

There’s a bigger opportunity inside biogas than many people realize. 🌱

Biogas upgrading is an essential step in transforming raw biogas into high-quality biomethane that can replace fossil natural gas and support the energy transition.

But what makes modern upgrading projects even more exciting is what else can be achieved during that same process.
