We’ve seen this across our UK projects in Murrow, Charlton Park and Durham. Commissioning is only the start. The decisions made during project development can affect plant performance for years to come.

If you operate or develop a biogas plant, your CO₂-rich off-gas could be more than a by-product. 📈

With CarboPac-L, it can be recovered and liquefied into high-quality liquid bioCO₂.
But what actually happens inside the system?

CarboPac-L takes the CO₂-rich stream from the biogas upgrading process and prepares it for liquefaction. The gas is cleaned, compressed and dried before being cooled and turned into liquid CO₂.

The process is carefully controlled to achieve the required CO₂ quality and recover as much of the available CO₂ as possible.

The result? Liquid CO₂ that can be stored, transported and used as a product.

CO₂ recovery is a technical decision. What you do with that CO₂ is a commercial one.

For biogas producers, adding CO₂ liquefaction is about more than installing the right technology.

There are practical questions to answer first:

- Is there a market for the CO₂?
- What quality does it need to meet?
- How will it be stored and transported?
- How does the local market affect the logistics?

And ultimately, does the business case make sense?

These factors all influence what a CO₂ recovery project could look like.

At Bright Renewables, we believe the conversation should go beyond the technology and look at the bigger picture: the CO₂, the market and the project around it.

Every biogas upgrading plant produces two gas streams. 🌱

One is methane, the product everyone talks about. The other is a CO₂-rich off-gas that is usually treated as something to manage and move on from.

We see that second stream differently. The CO₂ in it is valuable, and with the right technology it becomes a product in its own right.

Our new explanimation shows how CarboPac-L does exactly that. The CO₂ is filtered through activated carbon, compressed, dried to a very low dew point and then liquefied at -22 °C. Non-condensable gases are removed along the way, so what ends up in the storage tank is food-grade liquid bioCO₂, ready for off-take and transport.

Throughout the process, our control system monitors quality continuously, including dissolved methane levels, and adjusts the flow where needed.

The result is more than extra CO₂. It adds a second revenue stream from the same plant and improves the project's carbon intensity score. It also offers a clean alternative to CO₂ from fossil sources and makes the project less dependent on external suppliers and fluctuating prices.

It started as a concept on half a page. Today, it's capturing CO₂ in Austria. 🌍

Meet Thomas Brouwer, Product Manager at Bright Renewables, part of HoSt Group.

Five years ago, Thomas traded his PhD at the University of Twente for a spot in HoSt Group's R&D team. One of his first projects: a carbon capture system to extract CO₂ from flue gases. That idea grew into a full-scale commercial system, running since the end of 2025.
