Celebrating 40 Years of Hoek Design with an outing to the island of Terschelling ⛵️

Back in August the team took to the fast flowing waters of the Wadden Sea and from Harlingen crossed over to the West Frisian island of Terschelling (Skylge in Frisian) aboard Andre Hoek’s legendary Trekvogel.

The Trekvogel (migratory bird) is a 17.50-meter-long and 4.90-meter-wide Lemsteraak built in 1912/1913 by Gebr. de Boer in Lemmer, commissioned by W.H. Kalis (of the later dredging company Bos-Kalis) in Dordrecht. In the yard’s 1912 build books, the aak was listed under build number 31. The sails were made by M.F. de Vries in Lemmer. The Lemsteraak was launched on 22 June 1913 under the name ‘Helena’. The Lemsteraak ‘Trekvogel’ was restored in 1986 and the following years by Jachtwerf Stofberg & zn. It is to this day the largest Lemsteraak ever built.

Her owner has given her a new shine, fitting for a vessel that is registered as a Varend Monument®️ (a sailing monument).

Weatherly (ex Cheliacaroca) was designed specifically for single-handed sailing and achieved the highest speed possible from a 65-foot boat. To meet these ambitious targets, this deep-draught boat has a displacement of just 18 tons - equivalent to that of a Volvo 60!

Two Hoek Design yachts are set to race in the legendary St. Barths Bucket, with events taking place this weekend from Friday, 13 March through Sunday, 15 March.

The fifth yacht in the Truly Classic 128 series, Linnea Aurora, and the 108 ft Truly Classic Namuun will both be competing, showcasing the timeless design and modern performance that define the Truly Classic series.

Hoek Design yachts have been a familiar sight at the Bucket for many years. From the majestic J Class yachts Lionheart and Topaz to classic yachts such as Athos, Marie, Elfje, Wisp and Meraki, our designs have regularly joined the fleet sailing the iconic courses off St. Barths.

We look forward to seeing Linnea Aurora and Namuun continue that tradition on the waters off St. Barths.

The whole team here at Hoek Design wishes Linnea Aurora fair winds, following seas and peak performance in the 3,000-mile RORC Transatlantic Race from Lanzarote to Antigua.

The fifth and latest in our Truly Classic 128 design series, this superb ocean cruiser has great potential for passage racing and we’re watching her progress with interest.
