Forces for Architecture

Forces for Architecture A research studio that explores how natural phenomena can serve the built environment. Forces for Architecture is a laboratory of natural forces.

For ages buildings have served as means of protection against the forces of nature, to create a protective shell against the elements. Buildings do not always succeed in their primary function; when a structure encounters wind, water or earthquakes it might fail to protect its users. But what if we don't look at forces of nature as an opponent who needs to che challenged? What if we see these forc

es as an opportunity to help create new forms of architecture, let it influence our environment? FFA aims to integrate natural forces, such as wind, heat or water to the built environment. The program consists of design and educational projects, exhibitions, expert meetings, debates and lectures. FFA is founded by Jólan van der Wiel and Benthem Crouwel Architects. The team is composed by

Jólan van der Wiel, Mels Crouwel, Bob Zwanink, Maddalena Gioglio, Anna Aagaard, Annette van Baren, Marten Wassman, Willem Jan van der Gugten
