The project reimagines Kop van Isselt as a strategic connector within a rapidly growing city. “Zip City” transforms the area from an urban barrier into a green-blue infrastructure that stitches together districts, linking the Groengordel to the Eem River through a linear park. This landscape integrates mobility, ecology, and public space, creating new pedestrian and cycling connections while fostering social interaction and resilience.
Rooted in the site’s industrial heritage, the design preserves and reactivates historic shed structures as vibrant hubs for culture, work, and community. Adaptive reuse maintains their identity while opening them to the city, organizing flexible interior spaces around public functions. Two towers rise above the existing sheds, establishing a dialogue between old and new. Carefully positioned and shaped, they enhance urban connections, maximize views, and introduce vertical density while minimizing ground impact, contributing to a layered and dynamic urban composition.
