Using roofing sheets (zinc) as temporary decking formwork instead of timber or marine plywood is a method sometimes seen on construction sites to reduce cost or where timber is scarce.
However, it must be properly designed and adequately supported. Thin roofing sheets are not intended to carry the weight of workers before reinforcement and concrete are placed. Walking directly on unsupported roofing sheets can lead to deformation, collapse, and serious accidents.
At Angon Engineering Ltd, we emphasize that safety should never be sacrificed for cost savings. Any alternative formwork system must be engineered to safely withstand construction loads before concrete placement.
Build Smart. Build Safe. Build to Last.
โ ๏ธ Disclaimer: Ordinary roofing zinc should never be assumed to safely support workers' weight. Proper engineering design, adequate propping, and safety precautions are essential before adopting this method
